Director, Merchandising Finance
Job Description

The Director of Merchandise Finance will play a critical role in the company, supporting our merchandise leadership team including the SVP of Merch Ops and VP of eCommerce.  This position has a wide range of responsibilities, all with the intent of influencing high-level decisions that improve business health and drive growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Leading and developing a team of individual contributors, all with varying degrees of experience and skill to enable professional growth

Will play a critical role in guiding the business strategy with data driven insights and observations and provide financial guidance and modeling for long-range strategic initiatives including capital allocations and gross margin benefits. Develop simple processes to post audit initiatives and report our results to our executive leaders.

Creating action oriented annual margin improvement plans, ensuring that long-range strategies are manifested in financial development.  Finance director should “own” the plan as much as the merchants and be able to help them drive results.

Responsible for reconciling monthly financial results vs. the forecast and explaining material variances in margin based on initiatives set forth (i.e. cost out, promo, etc.)

Develop monthly promo/pricing effectiveness reporting that drives improved decision making across merchandising teams; instill a culture of data driven decisions into all price activity across the organization

Support the Merchandise Cost Out Teams by developing category cost out scorecards to ensure teams are on path to achieve savings targets; a thought partner and brings additional ideas on ways to improve category profitability

Support eCommerce business leader with decision support and analytics to make fast improvements using data and business insights

Inquisitive learner who constantly seeks out improvements in the business and partners with leaders to implement ideas that enhance revenue and profit

QUALIFICATIONS

5-7 years of progressive finance experience, preferably with a mix of FP&A, Merchandise Finance, and Decision Support roles

Experience leading people and developing them for success

Experience working in a retail environment

Expert level experience with Microsoft Office and other financial modeling tools and a proven history of using tools to drive automation and simplification

MBA preferred
