Director, Physician Services

The Director of Physician Services is responsible for managing the physician practice and clinics including preparing an annual budget, assuring regulatory compliance with documentation/billing practices, maintaining on-budget financial performance, assuring the practice is meeting the clinical needs of the system and coordinating with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) on strategic growth and marketing plans to achieve the organizational objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinates with CMO to develop strategic goals and objectives for physician practice and marketing/communications plan to meet strategic goals Coordinates with CMO and physician staff to develop new services, potential clinic locations and optimize operations Coordinates with Director of Managed Care to evaluate and update 3rd party payer contracts for the physician practice Coordinates with finance to prepare financial reports for the physician practice and presents these reports at the hospital board of directors meeting Assures adequate Physician/Advanced Practice Provider(APP) staff to meet clinical needs of the system Meets regularly with physicians to review market strategy, financial performance and key performance indicators Develops annual budget and monitors practice financial performance monthly to assure on budget performance Coordinates with CMO and Talent Acquisition recruit, onboard, and retain professional staff Oversees the audit process to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures Responsible for performance management, development, and coaching of physicians and staff in partnership with the CMO and Clinic Manager(s) Works with physicians and clinic staff to provide innovative practice growth and quality solutions that will maintain and improve patient outcomes and satisfaction Participates in continuing education to enhance awareness of changes in billing/ documentation/regulatory standards as well as those that relate to professional development in healthcare/ physician practice management

Job Qualifications:   

Minimum requirement of BA/BS in business or healthcare related field; Master’s in healthcare administration or Business Administration preferred.  Candidate should have a minimum of 5 years management experience to include healthcare or MD practice setting.  Effective working knowledge of healthcare financial management, operations, and strategy, specifically medical practice accounting, third party reimbursement issues, patient flow and facilities management Must be a team player with demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks and assignments  Ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals (patients, families, physicians, attorneys, external funding agencies, allied health workers, and co-workers). Sound organizational skills and ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, integrity, and problem-solving techniques. Should have a thorough knowledge of medical billing and accounting practices and be well-versed on regulatory policies that impact MD documentation/billing. Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements Proficient in basic computer operations including Excel spread sheets and basic data analytics.
