Newell is seeking an experienced Director, Privacy and Data Protection, with exceptional organization, communication and execution skills to join our Legal team in Atlanta. In this role, you will lead data privacy globally across the organization to shape our approach to privacy in a commercially minded manner that protects consumers and employees. Responsibilities
Lead the continued evolution of Newell’s global data privacy program by championing a comprehensive data privacy and risk management framework that enables achievement of the company’s business objectives Serve as a trusted, business-minded strategic advisor on privacy matters by providing guidance and support to leadership, business segments and functional groups Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy considerations into product development, marketing initiatives, e-commerce solutions, novel technologies, innovative campaigns and other business activities, ensuring appropriate ethical considerations are included in all privacy decision making Monitor and assess privacy risks through PIAs, DPIAs and other mechanisms and refine mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws, regulations and industry standards such as GDPR and CCPA along with emerging areas of focus such as artificial intelligence Assess and update internal policies and processes for data privacy, including collection, accuracy, retention, use, transparency, access, and correction of personal data; execute effective mechanisms for handling privacy inquiries, claims, investigations and data subject access requests Develop and execute Newell’s global privacy training and awareness strategy and conduct the optimal amount of related activity to promote a culture of privacy and data protection compliance Serve as a liaison with regulatory authorities, industry groups and other stakeholders on privacy-related issues and respond to privacy and data security-related consumer and regulatory inquiries and investigations Collaborate with internal audit and compliance teams to ensure ongoing monitoring and enforcement of privacy policies and procedures Provide operational expertise and collaborate with Information Security and Legal Services to play a leadership role in the company’s incident response efforts in the event of a data breach, privacy or data security incident Collaborate for strategic response to and mitigation of privacy-related legal claims, including driving internal activity and stakeholder education to mitigate legal risk and lessen the related impact Prepare timely and relevant reports and updates on privacy matters for senior management and others, including the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors

Ability to evangelize and explain the “why” behind our vision for privacy with focus on translating complex privacy topics into easily digestible content for internal stakeholders Comfort and experience working in a multinational, matrixed organization Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making and risk assessment skills Proven leadership and influencing skills with experience advising and guiding senior-level management Adept at building strong working relationships with colleagues at all levels to influence and successfully lead cross-functional teams, at times without direct authority Self-starter who proactively initiates innovations and drives projects forward independently Highly organized, and proven ability to manage others while handling performing multiple concurrent high-priority workstreams in a fast-paced environment Comfortable navigating change with a keen ability to adjust as needed to remain productive Ability to be flexible and operate effectively when faced with certain levels of ambiguity, while always maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity Excellent written and oral communication skills, with deep acumen on intuitively adjusting communication to reflect the audience’s needs to ensure comprehension Adept at taking on new opportunities and challenges with high energy and passion Personal commitment towards development, proactively seeking feedback with a receptiveness to coaching on areas for growth Willingness to prioritize demonstrating Newell’s Values of Integrity, Leadership, Ownership, Teamwork and Passion for Winning in all aspects of performanceEducation and Experience
Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience At least one relevant privacy certification Proficient knowledge of privacy and data protection globally; knowledge in artificial intelligence and/or data ethics a plus Proven track record of progressive knowledge and experience Master’s degree or JD a plus
