Director, Product Design - Provider and Client

Role Overview  

The Product Design Director for Provider and Client/Broker portfolios plays a pivotal role within our health insurance and services company. This influential leadership position requires visionary leadership, strategically steering the design process in collaboration with Product and Technology leadership. The Director will advance human-centered experience design, fostering a culture of innovation and change through the adoption of a product mindset. With a clear focus on transformation and excellence, this role is designed for a leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about redefining health insurance experiences for both providers and clients. 

Key Accountabilities 

Partner with Product and Technology leadership to establish and refine design strategies for the Provider and Client/Broker portfolios. 

Align design initiatives with the company's overall strategic objectives and growth plans. 

Stay informed of industry trends, ensuring the design strategy is innovative and forward-thinking.  

Roadmap Oversight

Oversee the delivery roadmap, managed by junior team members, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities. 

Monitor project progress and performance, providing guidance and support to ensure timely and quality outcomes. 

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate design efforts seamlessly across different domains.

Champion a human-centered approach to experience design, enhancing the usability and engagement of health insurance products. 

Apply design thinking principles to deeply understand user needs and translate them into actionable design solutions. 

Foster a culture that values empathetic, user-focused design across the organization. 

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of talented designers, fostering an environment of growth and creativity.

Empower team members to own their projects and make impactful contributions, providing the necessary tools and resources to succeed. 

Encourage collaboration, open communication, and knowledge sharing within the team and with broader stakeholders. 

Driving Change and Innovation

Lead the organization and partners through transformative changes, promoting the adoption of a product mindset. 

Identify opportunities for innovation, driving initiatives that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and competitive advantage.

Act as a change agent, inspiring others to embrace new methodologies and innovative practices.  

Qualifications & Experience

10+ years of experience in this space.

8+ years of experience in product design leadership roles

Experience managing large teams within a matrixed organization

Experience and comfort reporting to Executive Leadership Team members where appropriate

Demonstrated results in being able to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into both a short-term and long-term strategic plan

Entrepreneurial with either startup experience and/or driving new initiatives within a large organization


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 158,300 - 263,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
