Job Description

The Director, Quality, Safety and Patient Family Experience is responsible for leading teams focused on improvement work for safety, process improvement, clinical effectiveness and patient family experience to meet the needs of the organization. Responsible for the day to day operations of the Center for Quality and Safety. Leads with flexibility and adaptability and escalates barriers to Sr. Director, Quality, Safety and Patient Family Experience promptly to mitigate issues. Leader embodies Lurie Children’s core values. Provides clarity by defining roles, responsibilities and priorities and helps team members grow and develop by identifying gaps and giving frequent feedback.

Essential Job Functions:

Cultivate an understanding of the value of improvement science and the talents and skillsets within the Center for Quality and Safety throughout the Lurie Children’s enterprise.Support the Senior Director in promoting a culture of continuous improvement and deploying the tactics required to execute the system-wide strategic vision for quality and safety.Coordinates with operational and clinical leaders to drive the incorporation of high reliability organization principles and improve safety, quality and patient family experience.Collaborates with the portfolio manager to guide the prioritization of improvement work identified through the portfolio management function.Collaborates with Program Director to expand improvement capacity and capability.In partnership with the Senior Director, develop, implement and sustain competence-based orientation and training.Demonstrates use of formal quality improvement methodologies, incorporation of high reliability organization principles and consistently learns from all available evidence and data.Analyzes internal quality data, as well as external comparative data (SPS, PHIS, HEDIS, NRC, peers) to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations. Promote and integrate academic activity both internally and externally.  Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Master’s degree required. Clinical degree (Bachelor’s degree of Nursing or Pharmacy) preferred.Minimum 3-5 years clinical, quality improvement and/or leadership experience preferred.Basic project management and business analysis skills. Familiarity with improvement methodologies, e.g., Lean or Six Sigma, preferred.Good written, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to present and communicate effectively with staff and management across the organization.General understanding of healthcare quality, patient safety, and regulatory issues.Competency with Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Familiar with data management, including interpreting and summarizing statistical data.Project management and collaboration skills preferred.

Pay Range

$110,240.00-$181,896.00 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
