Job Description The Director of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for developing and supporting in execution of global resourcing strategies to drive and achieve R&D strategies, goals, and budget. Accountable for ensuring that R&D and its functions operate within the current Plan, having visibility resourcing shifts, and that resources are in line with portfolio needs and priorities. Strategically manage resourcing across R&D and its functions in collaboration with the Functional Heads, Business Operations, Finance, and HR, utilizing knowledge of current and future business environment. Globally influence and strategically manage resourcing linkages across the businesses and understand the impact of business decisions and solutions. Description + Primarily accountable for forecasting and management of R&D resources and associated budget. Responsible for short- and long-term resource forecasts and management of implications of alternative development scenarios. + Provides leadership and develop strategic recommendations for R&D functions to ensure all functional areas operate within the current Portfolio Plan/LRP resources and budget. Partner with functional leaders to resource and financially plan upcoming studies and assets. + Works closely with Finance, HR, and other stakeholders to take leadership role in preparation of AbbVie annual portfolio plan and financial long-range plan. + Provides overall portfolio timeline and cost estimates to assess portfolio resources and associated financial opportunities. Negotiates with other functional areas on portfolio outcomes and deliverables to meet conflicting demands (time, cost, quality, performance). + Partners with RDSR lead to develop departmental goals. Provides proactive leadership on strategic business issues and makes strategic decisions that affect the department and the business. + Collaborates across Research and Development to participate in initiatives to improve operational performance, enhance culture, and improve decision making. + Develops and maintains business relationships across functional areas of AbbVie to further R&D objectives in support of the strategic imperatives. Also partners across Finance, HR, and R&D to enhance teamwork and identify workable solutions. Serves as resourcing expert and establishes and maintains relationships with key resources / contacts / stakeholders. + Oversees the management of resource models and related demand as well as related budgeted capacity; serves as Center of Excellence on all resourcing questions across R&D. + Manages Strategic Partnership team within R&D Strategic Resourcing Organization; responsible for development of direct reports and their performance against expectations of role and level; member of R&D Strategic Resourcing Leadership team. + Accountable for establishment and management of tools & processes needed to ensure employee proficiency with departmental systems, procedures, tools and guidelines. Qualifications + Bachelor/Master of Science (BSc/MSc), or PhD in Science, or Master of Business Administration (MBA) or related field. + Experience in workforce planning and modeling is strongly preferred. + 5+ years in pharmaceutical / life sciences R&D required. + Consulting experience preferred. + People management experience required. + History of anticipating and proactively resolving problems while exhibiting superior judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues; and ability to develop fit-for-purpose frameworks and strategies across various key R&D topics + Experience with standard business procedures including project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting. Multi-faceted, broad based experience and knowledge of operational business needs, issues, mitigation plans. Operations experience with large budget and matrixed environment. + Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Proven ability to lead, manage, develop, and motivate others in a complex, multi-functional matrixed environment. + Executive-level collaboration, communication and presence, and leadership skills with broad business orientation. *Preference is for role to be office based in Lake County, IL, but may be potential for the role to be remote. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
