Director, Relationship Manager - Private Markets
About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 13 The Role: This individual will be critical to SPGR’s new strategy to develop and expand its presence in new areas such as Private Markets (where we have not traditionally focused). This requires that we extend our existing investor outreach activities to new investor personas relevant to this market. We have identified building relationships with Asset Owners – Insurance Companies, Pension Funds and their advisors, Sovereign Wealth Funds etc. – as being key to our success to execute on the strategy. With your knowledge of this sector, and its participants, you will lead our activity in this market creating awareness of SPGR, its analytics and research. In this role, you will the lead the Global Market Outreach team’s Private Markets activity. You will work in conjunction with Analytical and Commercial (such as the Regional Private Markets Heads of Sales) colleagues and as well as other stakeholders, such as Marketing. This will ensure that SPGR presents a coordinated and integrated approach to the asset class, thereby establishing our credibility and maximizing our impact. The primary initial focus of the role is on our US Private Markets Coverage, with the role having responsibility for: US Insurance Companies active in the Private Markets sector; US Pension Funds (e.g. California State Board, NYC Retirement Fund etc.) with Public Finance sponsors; consultants and advisors to these sectors; and Americas Based Global Insurers. You will also help coordinate and support our global engagement efforts by other Market Outreach colleagues, initially including EMEA Investment Management Firms (Asset Managers of Insurers), and Global Sovereign Wealth Funds/Insurers/Pension Funds in co-ordination with Regional Market Outreach teams & Sales. You will be partnering with senior stakeholders across high profile businesses including S&P’s analytical and commercial practices, managing several investor communities, facilitating engagement, and delivering relevant insights back into the business in a compliant manner. In turn, you will get daily exposure to investors from the world’s most influential asset managers and owners including many high-profile investor accounts. Given the nature of the role, you will be given every opportunity to use your communication and influencing skills. Responsibilities: Development and execution of a coordinated global outreach strategy to a portfolio of investor contacts, principally Asset Owners (e.g. Insurance Companies, Pension Funds and Sovereign Wealth Funds) with a particular focus on investment activities in Private Markets. Collaborating with Market Outreach colleagues, to ensure targeted names within markets are covered in a coordinated manner – either locally or by the Relationship Manager. Coordinating with other partners such as the Regional Private Markets Heads of Sales, Marketing, Sales & Product teams and other stakeholders to maximize the impact and effectiveness of market engagement. Coordinating outreach activities such as hosting events, one-on-one meetings, and other engagements to connect with contacts to source valuable insights to provide to our analytical and commercial teams Achieving Annual KPI targets such as activity levels, engagement, and insights with the investor contacts. (Note: The position is not responsible for, or measured by, commercial targets such as revenue generated, or sales made.) Contributing to the development of priorities and understanding of market trends etc. that indicate opportunities or highlighting insights that may be valuable from an analytical or commercial perspective. Co-ordinating and collaborating across S&P Global as part of the Enterprise value strategy, sharing information on identified key accounts as appropriate. What We’re Looking For: At least 15 years of relevant Private Markets experience. Fluency in English. Strong knowledge of the investor industry, as well as understanding the latest developments/issues likely to impact the development of the market. Knowledge of the capital markets as it relates to private credit and other fund finance vehicles Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to build relationships and collaborate with all (commercial and analytical) levels internally within an organization as well as externally at a senior level. Comfortable with developing a nascent market and contacts through your own drive and initiative. Must be flexibility to travel, potentially globally, for in-person meetings with investors and colleagues approximately for 5-10 days a month. An understanding of S&P Ratings’ business and products would be an advantage. Compensation/Benefits Information: S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $107,100.00 to $212,975.00. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
