Director, Risk Appetite
If you’re looking for your next dream job, consider this one in BMO’s Enterprise Risk Group where every colleague helps protect and grow the bank by providing independent review and oversight of enterprise-wide risks, working together to maintain a risk management framework and fostering a strong risk culture. \#ERPMDreamJobs This role leads the design, development and execution of the Risk Appetite program for the bank, with a specific focus on ensuring the US Risk Appetite program is operating in concert with the size and complexity of the bank. + Lead development and implementation of the US Risk Appetite program including: + Maintenance and refresh of the Risk Appetite Framework Corporate Standard and supporting US documentation, including specific direction on transformational elements of the framework. + Develop specific requirements to enhance the Risk Appetite Framework for the US and its legal entities and operating groups. + Serve as key contact / Subject Matter Expert with all Risk Appetite stakeholders, within 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line of defense, ensuring seamless delivery of change management, communication, and training on enhanced Risk Appetite program across three lines of defense. + Work as senior contact in the annual refresh cycle to ensure alignment with to the Risk Appetite framework and providing strong guidance on enhanced requirements and effective challenge to the Risk Appetite statements and metrics, driving consistency of standards and requirements. + Interact with key risk committees, internal audit, and external / regulatory parties in communicating the Risk Appetite program transformation and execution of program, including annual refreshes and ongoing quarterly maintenance + Liaise with program management team to ensure tracking to ongoing milestones and deliverables + Build out documentation and metrics to ensure effectiveness of Risk Appetite program + Provide coaching, guidance and direction staff members in support of assigned accountabilities. + Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do. + Ensures alignment between values and behaviour that fosters diversity and inclusion. + Regularly connects work to BMO's purpose, sets inspirational goals, defines clear expected outcomes, and ensures clear accountability for follow through. + Builds interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups to create the highest value for all stakeholders. + Attracts, retains, and enables the career development of top talent. + Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives + Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges. + Networks with industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices. + Assists with the interpretation of new or changing regulations and assessing impacts to the risk programs and governance frameworks; recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business. + Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and legislative/ regulatory directives and guidance. + Researches existing or emerging requirements & related best practices to assist and develops recommendations for changes/enhancements. + Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems. + Communicates abstract concepts in simple terms. + Fosters strong internal and external networks and works with and across multiple teams to achieve business objectives. + Anticipates trends and responds by implementing appropriate changes. + Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed. **Qualifications:** + Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Expert knowledge of risk management, audit, compliance, governance practices. + Expert knowledge of business and regulatory environment and understanding of risk issues / trends and best practices. + Expert knowledge of banking products, including credit and non-credit experience, economics and financial markets. + Expert communication and relationship management skills. + Ability to manage multiple priorities with effective planning and organizing skills. + Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge. + Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation. + Verbal & written communication skills - Expert. + Analytical and problem solving skills - Expert. + Influence skills - Expert. + Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration - Expert. + Able to manage ambiguity. + Data driven decision making - Expert. **Salary:** $128,000.00 - $238,000.00 **Pay Type:** Salaried The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
