Position Summary:

This position acts as the financial oversight/controller of approximately $400M in Risk Management and Medical Operations, including all planning, forecasting, analysis, and cost control, as well as critical business and financial projects in these areas. This individual is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of key Risk Management systems and processes, including claims data capture and maintenance, claims data analysis and reporting, and risk compliance monitoring in critical areas such as Crew Wellness, PEME/REME Compliance, and Tour Operations.

This position also oversees claims payments, including medical, legal, and settlement payments, and maintains the related actuarial models for the self-insured portion of these costs, serving as the primary liaison with the Company’s actuary.

This individual is also responsible for all financial aspects related to the construction of the Company’s new campus and works with the project management team to ensure the project stays within the approved financial spend.

 

This position will report onsite in Miami, FL

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops, manages, and reports on annual budgets and related monthly forecasts and variances for Medical and Risk Management costs, including the annual Crew and Guest Claims budget, insurance premiums, and departmental G&A budgets. Leads the monthly close process for Risk Management and Medical Operations departments and ensures that financial results are correct and compliant with GAAP and overall corporate policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley. Provides financial and administrative leadership for all critical business projects and plays a key role in the development, assessment, and implementation of the Risk Management, Medical Operations, and Legal department process and system enhancements, including policy and procedural changes and system implementations, upgrades, and/or enhancements. Provides leadership to a team responsible for the development of medical networks throughout the world to provide care for the crew and guests. Provides leadership to a team of analysts responsible for producing analytical models, including quantitative and qualitative analytics and in-depth assessments of incident, claims, and related cost performance vs. targets and associated key drivers. Provides leadership for a team of compliance analysts focused on analysis, monitoring, and reporting on critical risk areas including Hiring Practices, Tour Operations Compliance, Wellness Program Compliance, and PEME/REME performance. Responsible for the processing of claims related to medical, legal, and claims settlement costs, including cost compliance monitoring against agreed medical and legal rates, settlement approval, and payment processing. Responsible for the administration of the department’s crew and guest claims database, including reporting, presentation, and evaluation/determination of the company’s reserve for crew and guest claims (approx. $200M) presented to senior finance management on a quarterly basis and actuarial advisors and third-party auditors as required. Provides leadership and acts as the primary liaison with third-party advisors, including claims and compliance system support/development providers, outside consultants for actuarial services, and outside auditors. Responsible for all financial aspects related to the construction of the Company’s new campus and works with the project management team to ensure the project stays within the approved financial spend. Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, business, analytics, or other relevant discipline related to the requirements of this position. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting and/or Finance (MBA or advanced degree preferred). Minimum of 10 years of overall relevant experience, including finance or public accounting (Big 4 public accounting and/or large public corporation experience preferred). Certified Public Accountant and other relevant professional certifications (CFE, CIA, RMA, CISA) preferred. Knowledge of actuarial science, information systems, U.S. GAAP, and internal control concepts and techniques required. Associate member of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA) is a plus. Experience with system implementations and global/international operations/organization is a plus. Limited travel expected; however, must be able to travel up to 20% of the time, including trips abroad. Project management experience with complex and long-term projects. Ability to develop presentations and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Understanding of actuarial methods and calculations. Process-oriented and able to lead and affect process change and improvements. Self-motivated, adaptive, proactive, quick learner, and able to work well with others with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong technical, analytic, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal). Strong attention to detail while maintaining a big-picture point of view. Excellent PC skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc
