In addition to a strong portfolio of medicines for cardiovascular diseases, under the Group’s 2025 Vision to become a “Global Pharma Innovator with Competitive Advantage in Oncology,” Daiichi Sankyo is primarily focused on providing novel therapies in oncology, as well as other research areas centered around rare diseases and immune disorders. **Responsibilities** + In close partnership with Daiichi Sankyo’s Research Institute, Boston (RIB), establish and expand a network of trusted relationships with academic institutions, biotech companies and venture investors to access early-stage innovation. Facilitate networking in the Boston ecosystem, enable introductions and outreach and communication in order to position Daiichi Sankyo as a trusted partner in the Boston/Cambridge ecosystem. + Assist the RIB in ensuring timely review and execution of sponsored research agreements by partnering closely with the US legal team and the GBD Transactions team as required. + Proactively search for, identify, and evaluate potential opportunities (research collaboration, in-licensing preclinical, platform technologies and research tools) that are consistent with the areas of interest of Daiichi Sankyo’s Research organization. Partner with the other members of the Daiichi Sankyo Business Development team to assist with Development stage opportunities in cancer and specialty medicine. + In close partnership with RD, provide expertise in the scientific assessment, therapeutic evaluation and feasibility for external collaboration opportunities with relevant internal stakeholders. Support the internal scientific review and feasibility process once a decision is made to pursue discussions. Work to support the evaluation and feasibility analysis. Prepare documents for submission and presentation to management. Report to global business development leadership and cross-functional senior leadership on the status of key opportunities and seek approval for advancing projects. + Provide clear, concise assessments and recommendations for future reference. Fully leverage new and existing internal opportunity management tools to support the operations of the SE organization as it relates to tracking incoming opportunities. + Build the Daiichi Sankyo brand via participation at key scientific and industry forums. Network with external parties to ensure awareness of Daiichi Sankyo’s key capabilities and BD objectives. **Qualifications:** Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation. **Education Qualifications (from an accredited college or university)** + PhD PhD required, MD, MD/PhD in Life Sciences is preferred, MBA would be a plus required + MD preferred Experience Qualifications + 7 or More Years 8+ years of relevant industry experience required, preferably in the Boston/Cambridge area, with a minimum of 5 years is in S&E, BD, venture capital, technology transfer, or other partnering-focused professional experience. required + Experience covering Oncology and Immunology preferred preferred + 7 or More Years Practical experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry of at least five years in drug discovery and development. preferred + 7 or More Years Must possess solid foundation of generally accepted BD practices. preferred + Demonstrated project management/leadership skills to lead/manage cross-functional teams in evaluating target opportunities partnering opportunities and producing high quality assessments of scientific and therapeutic hypotheses, as well as preclinical and clinical data. preferred + Ability to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on internal and external commitments. preferred + Strong communication skills to effectively convey business strategies and capabilities internally and externally, present individual and team recommendations clearly and concisely, and foster cross-functional consensus-building. preferred + Strong people leadership and interpersonal skills and demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders. + Strong existing network, especially in the Boston/Cambridge area, particularly in academia and biotech and networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers to keep abreast of emerging opportunities.
