About the Department

The Office of College Admissions has a staff of over 40 people working as Admissions Counselors in Operations and IT Support, and Outreach and Communications. They manage marketing to and recruitment of prospective students, as well as the admissions process for first year and transfer students into The College, and summer programs for high school students. The Office of College Admissions is a forward-facing department often providing the first impression of UChicago to visitors in-person, virtually, telephonically, via email engagement, digital media and print materials. Of its several schools and departments, The College is the single-largest entity at the University of Chicago, and responsible for bringing to campus a class of students with a diverse set of backgrounds who are prepared to take on rigorous academics while engaging with the University, surrounding neighborhood, and city of Chicago. Job Summary

This position supports the work of the Office of College Admissions and its social media marketing strategy. The Director of Social Media will manage multiple aspects of College Admissions digital strategy including content creation, copywriting, sourcing material, and other related tasks on the Department’s several social media accounts. Additionally, this position requires working well, both individually and in teams, to problem-solve, manage projects, and as a positive representative of the University of Chicago. To maintain a general understanding of the recruitment and application review process, the Director of Social Media will also manage a small admissions territory and have general recruitment and application review responsibilities in addition to their social media responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Maintains all current social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Tumblr, and Twitter.Builds on successful social media campaigns and develops new postings regularly to maintain a strong, positive online presence.Creates content geared towards prospective and admitted students, in line with UChicago branding and overall marketing strategy.Collaborates with other members of Outreach and Communications team to develop content and assist in projects in communication areas other than social media.Manages current student interns who assist with social media content creation and other Outreach-related work.Manages a small, domestic or international territory and is the primary evaluator of applications for admission from those territories. Serves as a member of the Admissions Committee.Plans, develops and disseminates information designed to keep the public informed of the organization's programs, accomplishments, or point of view, with moderate levels of guidance and direction.Solves a range of straightforward problems, as work assignments are difficult and broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Manage digital and social media assets (including routine website maintenance); compiles and analyzes relevant metrics based on established strategic goals.Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

Degree in communications or other relevant field.

Experience:

A minimum of two years of relevant experience in social media or digital marketing.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Proficient in Microsoft Office.Proficient in various social media platforms and marketing within them, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.Skilled at Slate CRM.

Working Conditions

Work will take place in an office setting, and remotely during work-related travel, on and off-campus events, and application review season.Some travel.
