What You'll Be Doing:
Eli Lilly is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to drive the development of our custom software platforms supporting large molecule drug discovery. This role will lead the development of sophisticated systems that orchestrate early decision-making by integrating data from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), high-throughput assays, and in silico modeling. As a player-coach, you will both lead a development team and contribute technically to advance our drug discovery tools and capabilities.
What You Should Bring:
Lead a diverse development team including full-time developers and coordinating with vendor/offshore teams
Provide technical leadership in designing and implementing scalable software solutions for complex biological data integration
Contribute directly to the codebase and conduct code reviews while ensuring team productivity and quality
Drive architectural decisions and best practices for cloud-native applications on AWS
Collaborate closely with product management, scientists, and researchers to translate scientific requirements into technical solutions
Champion the use of AI/ML to optimize experimental processes in drug discovery
Your Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field required
8+ years of software development experience with proven leadership experience managing engineering teams
Strong hands-on experience with Python, React/Next.js, Node.js, and cloud technologies (AWS)
Experience with scientific computing libraries (Biopython, Pandas) and workflow management systems (Cromwell/WDL)
Demonstrated expertise in database technologies (PostgreSQL) and API design
Experience leading cloud-native application development and CI/CD practices
Background or strong interest in life sciences, particularly in large molecule drug discovery is highly preferred
Additional Preferences:
Experience with scientific workflow orchestration and high-throughput data processing
Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and computational biology
Understanding of AI/ML applications in drug discovery
Strong communication skills and ability to bridge technical and scientific domains
