Director, Software Engineering needed by DIRECTV, LLC in El Segundo, CA [and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.; may work from home] to Supervise a team of more than 150 employees and contractors in the software development group that are responsible for the delivery of IT-related work on the directv.com web application. Work with leadership and various teams to provide a clear vision and facilitate the execution of a results-driven software development process that is focused on speed, quality, customer experience, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and business growth. Help identify business and technical issues associated with projects, identify risk mitigations, handle escalations, and help resolve major impediments. Ensure effective work planning through participation in Program Increment pre-planning and planning events, and assure appropriate team participation in agile ceremonies. Work closely with the respective leads, business/product peers, and project management groups to identify resource needs for the SCRUM teams based on the demand, budget, and schedule. Allocate and manage expense budget, estimate, funding, and demand while making sure the capital projects are delivered within budget. Help build a high performance team by hiring, training, coaching, identifying areas for improvement, and mentoring leads and managers, while encouraging, promoting, and progressing top performing employees and develop action plans to improve performance as needed. Help identify areas for improvement, training opportunities for employees, and evaluate individual performances on a quarterly and annual basis. Provide performance feedback and imperatives to vendors. Hold vendor teams accountable to needed performance and compliance to internal standards for development and delivery management processes. Provide status updates to leadership teams, escalate any blocking issues, and liaise with business partners as needed. Manage large-scale and multi-national development efforts in a multi-vendor environment. Oversee one Principal, System Engineer 1, three Principal, IT Software Engineer 1, and one Principal, Software Engineer 2.
REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Electronic Engineering, or Computer Science and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered, or 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation working with leadership and various teams to provide a clear vision and facilitate the execution of a results-driven software development process that is focused on speed, quality, customer experience, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and business growth; working closely with the respective leads, business/product peers, and project management groups to identify resource needs for the SCRUM teams based on the demand, budget, and schedule; helping build a high performance team by hiring, training, coaching, identifying areas for improvement, and mentoring leads and managers, while encouraging, promoting, and progressing top performing employees and develop action plans to improve performance as needed; and managing large-scale and multi-national development efforts in a multi-vendor environment.
