Compensation

Compensation includes a base salary of $156,200.00 - $260,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Job Description

The Director, Software Engineering will develop and execute an engineering strategy which will be an enabler for the company to execute its operational and product strategy. The Director will identify technology opportunities for products, direct implementation of technology components of product strategy, and have overall responsibility for effectively delivering on needed results and objectives. The Director is responsible for creating and executing on a strategy to build the organization, evolve and maintain the culture, and refine processes necessary to sustain a high-quality team of software engineering professionals.

This role is a key leadership position for a release train and collaborates closely with other roles to lead the train effectively. This train is made up of a number of mixed onshore and offshore scrum teams. The Director, Software Engineering is expected to lead these teams ensuring that they have effective processes allowing them to deliver. Additionally, this role is expected to maintain our commitment to technical craft.

Additionally, this role is expected to devise a series of strategies covering data production, curation, governance and use throughout the enterprise. Data engineering technologies continue to evolve and we must evolve in order to support the demands of our business. These strategies must be developed in close collaboration with our architecture and central data science teams and should clearly establish a roadmap over the next 3 years that can be successfully navigated using a series of value added steps.

Your Role:

Manages a set of software engineering teams and ensures responsibility for the engineering and architecture alignment of all solutions delivered within these teams.Partners closely with leaders across Product, UX, Architecture, Analytics, and Agile Delivery teams.Ensures that team organization, individual development, and communication are in line with the Cox Automotive vision. Builds scrum and leadership teams that perform at a high level. Fosters inter-team collaboration and productivity.Implements, measures and reports on the execution strategy defined for the team. Execution includes delivery of planned work that meets company standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability. Effectively communicates with key stakeholders when either scope or timeline of projects require modification.Oversees engineering processes and ability to generate new processes to meet needs. Works closely with senior leadership on continual process improvement and organizational change to support Agile values.Responsible for appropriately allocating teams to the highest value investments per business backlog and release planning. Formulate and communicate mitigation strategies for long running projects or projects where risk is high.Tracks and measures project work and programs to assess overall success. Responsible for ensuring the program scrum teams’ overall morale and productivity continue to improve.Manages career progression for team members to include hiring, performance reviews, salary decisions, mentoring, and coaching.Partners with leadership on higher level initiatives across Cox Automotive.Oversees budgeting for local team including headcount, hardware to support projects, staffing, facilities and tools for software development.Responsible for local engineering brand awareness strategy and implementation as well as responsible for continuing to evolve culture of technology team to drive Cox Automotive Technology operating principles.
 

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is recommended and a Master’s degree in related field is desired10+ years relevant experience with at least 5 years leadership experience in a software development organization, ideally in an Agile environmentPrior career experience holding Data Engineer or Software Engineer rolesProven ability to lead and advance software teamsDemonstrated experience developing and implementing product delivery best practicesExperience with Agile principles and delivery approachesEffective verbal and written communicatorBackground in data engineering in a high-growth companyExceptional and proven leadership skills

Experience with high volume transactional databasesExperience developing data science applications using platforms including SnowflakeExperience developing a demonstrably successful data governance strategy in an enterprise settingExperience with Amazon Web ServicesExperience using data transformation tools including dbtExperience with data curation platforms including Collibra
