POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Business Planning & Analysis (BP&A) for Specialty Products is accountable for all financial planning and analysis associated with commercial activities for the following MPC product lines: Asphalt, Petrochemicals, Petroleum Coke & Sulfur, Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), Natural Gas, and Power.

The Specialty Products BP&A team analyzes operational and financial results and partners with organizational leaders to provide performance insights highlighting opportunities to drive incremental value. The team also coordinates the monthly and annual planning processes, aligning the commercial operating plans with the resulting financial outlook.

Key customers include VP BP&A, VP Specialty Products and the Executive Leadership Team. The Director establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with key partners within the Commercial, Refining, CFO, MPLX and IT organizations.

This position will be based in either Findlay, OH or San Antonio, TX.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Insights & Analysis:

Leads efforts to leverage financial, operational and market data related to Specialty Products, to extract valuable business performance insights and drive financial outcomes.Provides detailed performance insights into Specialty Products P&Ls, highlighting areas for improved performance and identifying opportunities to add incremental value.Oversees the preparation of P&L reporting tools, including comprehensive metrics reporting, analysis of business trends, forecast and business plan variances.Tracks real-time operational and market indicators to bridge current conditions to anticipated financial results.Leads effort to ensure accurate transfer pricing between the Commercial organization and Refining/other internal trading partners to ensure reliable internal reporting.Works with the risk management team to align physical and derivative financial impacts driving insights into the effectiveness of our risk management programs.Supports quarterly and annual external reporting, including earnings releases and earnings call preparation.Develops and implements modern digital tools and processes to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and automation of financial planning and analysis. Utilizes advanced analytics and data visualization tools to communicate complex financial information clearly, in alignment with the company’s modernization efforts.Assists with ad hoc requests from the Commercial Organization, Accounting, Tax, Finance, Investor Relations, and others, including variance analyses for Accounting & Reporting.

Advisory & Support:

Serves as a trusted business advisor to organizational leaders, providing data-driven insights and analysis to support key decision-making processes across the business. Helps leaders make informed choices about operational and strategic initiatives.Identifies and assesses risks and opportunities that could impact operational and financial performance.

Collaboration & Communication:

Acts as a liaison between the operational organization and Finance/IT to ensure financial, accounting and data capabilities align with organizational needs.Communicates effectively with all stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment on financial goals and performance.Presents complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.

Team Leadership & Development:

Develops and maintains a high-performing BP&A team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.Sets clear goals and direction for the team aligned with MPC strategic pillars and organizational objectives.Monitors team performance and provides regular feedback to ensure the achievement of organizational goals.Allocates time to coaching, developing and mentoring team members, supporting their professional growth and development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree required. Majors in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Engineering with experience in financial analysis.MBA, CPA, CFA, or Master’s degree in relevant field is beneficial.Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience with a strong record of career progression and demonstrated leadership capability required.Detailed knowledge of refining, commercial, marketing and trading activities is beneficial.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite required.Experience with Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and/or related databases (SQL, Access, etc.) is beneficial.
