Job Description:

Location: We support US flexible working arrangements in the contiguous 48 states, and candidates who can commute regularly to Wellesley MA, Kansas City MO, Portland ME or Hartford CT are preferred.

The opportunity:  

The Director of State Filings is responsible for overseeing and managing the company's state regulatory filing processes across multiple jurisdictions for the organization. This role ensures compliance with state insurance regulations and managing state examinations. This leadership position manages a team of professionals and reports directly to the AVP, Financial Reporting and Controls. This challenging role offers the opportunity to lead a critical function within our organization and make a significant impact on our regulatory compliance efforts. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail and a passion for excellence in regulatory compliance.

How you will contribute:

Lead and manage the completion of state and regulatory filings quarterly and annually

Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with business units and support teams to ensure all regulatory requirements are met

Oversee a team of professionals, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and managing daily operations

Serve as the primary point of contact for state examinations and communications with state insurance regulators

Interpret and implement new legal requirements from various states

Maintain an understanding of The Company’s current product offerings

Analyze new product offerings and determine additional regulatory reporting needs

Oversee the year-end close process, ensuring timely and complete data collection

Review and approve state-specific filings, comparing them to prior year submissions

Undertake special projects as needed to support the organization's regulatory compliance efforts

What you will bring with you:  

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, state filings, or legal within the insurance industry

Proven leadership experience managing teams and collaborating across organizational boundaries

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities

Highly organized with strong attention to detail

Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Experience with financial reporting systems (e.g., SAP)

Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint

Knowledge of Statement Pro software

Familiarity with insurance industry trends and emerging regulatory issues

Strong understanding of insurance regulations and reporting requirements

Salary Range: $135,100 - $202,700

Your actual base salary will be determined based on your unique skills, qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location. In addition to your base salary, this position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive award based on your individual performance as well as the overall performance of the business.
