About the Role

BMO Global Asset Management is seeking an experienced, results-driven professional to join our Institutional Sales and Services team as Director, Strategic Relationship Management, Western Canada. This role is pivotal in expanding our presence, deepening client relationships, and driving business growth in the region. The successful candidate will develop and execute sales strategies, engage with key stakeholders, and position BMO Global Asset Management’s investment solutions effectively.

We are looking for a dynamic and strategic thinker with a strong understanding of investment strategies across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, equities, private assets, structured solutions, and ETFs. This role will focus on building and managing relationships with Indigenous Governments, Investment Consultants, and other Institutional and High-Net-Worth investors. The ideal candidate will have the ability to navigate diverse client needs, identify opportunities, and contribute to the development of market-leading investment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute a sales strategy that expands BMO Global Asset Management’s client base and strengthens existing relationships, with a focus on Indigenous Governments, Investment Consultants, and other Institutional and High-Net-Worth investors.Cultivate and manage relationships with clients, investment consultants, and key industry stakeholders to understand investment needs and deliver tailored solutions.Identify new business opportunities, analyze market trends, and proactively position BMO’s investment offerings to address client objectives.Organize and conduct presentations, conference calls, and industry discussions to promote investment strategies and thought leadership.Actively participate in industry events, forums, and networking opportunities to elevate BMO’s visibility in the investment community.Provide input into new product development and marketing strategies to ensure alignment with market trends and client needs.Ensure all activities comply with regulatory, legal, and internal policies while maintaining a high standard of ethical conduct.Utilize data analytics and CRM tools to track sales performance, evaluate trends, and refine strategies to optimize business growth.Work closely with internal partners across BMO, including Investment Specialists, Portfolio Managers, Indigenous Banking and Trust, as well as Wealth Management teams, to provide an integrated and seamless client experience.Stay informed about industry developments, regulatory changes, and economic conditions that may impact investment strategies and client needs.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum 5 years in asset management with a strong focus on client engagement, sales, and business development.Post-secondary degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field.CFA designation preferred; other relevant professional designations are an asset.Deep understanding of investment strategies across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, equities, private assets, structured solutions, and ETFs.Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with Indigenous Governments, Investment Consultants, and other Institutional and High-Net-Worth investors, leveraging market insights to drive solutions.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and compelling manner.Expertise in data-driven decision-making, market analysis, and strategic problem-solving.Ability to assess business priorities, align objectives with market opportunities, and drive measurable outcomes.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across teams, influence stakeholders, and foster a collaborative environment.Highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving industry landscape.Experience using CRM tools and data analytics to track client interactions, monitor performance, and refine sales strategies.

Working Conditions: Extensive travel is required to meet client needs and support business development activities.  

Drives sales activities and results to grow the business of institutional clients for BMO Global Asset Management. Provides input to new product development.

Generally assigned small to mid-sized clients, prospects, territories, issues and relationships.Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients to understand specific needs and provides advice on regulatory issues and overall investment design.Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.Ensures alignment between stakeholders.Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.Develops, maintains and executes a business plan, including sales strategies, to achieve sales objectives and acquire new institutional clients.Participates in industry and prospect events to grow presence in the marketplace.Organizes and arranges regular conference calls and presentations, which are conducted either independently or in conjunction with portfolio managers to promote new strategies.Provides input to product development and marketing to grow the overall business.Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.Demonstrates effective and timely use of the customer relationship management system and expense reporting system.Adheres to all compliance, regulatory, and legal guidelines.Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Advanced understanding of institutional sales. Salary:

$88,400.00 - $163,800.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
