The Director, Strategic Risk within Global Risk Management leads the establishment of the second line Strategic Risk oversight function, including its ongoing activities resulting from GRM’s transformation initiatives under the strategic risk management workstream. The Director ensures the department’s business strategies, plans and initiatives are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, industry best practices, internal policies and procedures. The Director is also responsible for Reputational Risk reporting to Senior Management and the Board.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Responsible for the execution of the strategic risk management workstream under the GRM Transformation program, which includes the establishment of a formalized second line oversight function over Strategic Risk across the Bank. Responsible for the production of the Reputational Risk Appetite Report to the Reputational Risk Committee which includes input from various departments across the Bank, and ensuring that the report is accurate, complete, meaningful and timely. Ensure the report is consistent with industry practices. Leads the development, update, approval, and communication of the GRM Charter & Risk Appetite Statement; while ensuring it remains in compliance with governing regulations.   Maintains ongoing awareness of industry best practices and regulatory requirements with respect to strategic risk and its interconnections with other risks across the bank and communicates findings with recommendations to management. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert on strategic risk and coordinate with strategic risk appetite metric owners to implement enhancements to ensure the Bank meets and/or exceeds best practices and regulatory requirements. Leads the Annual Assessment of strategic risk, in collaboration with other stakeholders across GRM and broadly the Bank, as required by the Bank’s ICAAP process. Collaborates with internal stakeholders including business line and control and corporate function representatives (e.g. compliance, legal, audit, etc.) to maintain effective internal communication through the ongoing sharing and acquiring of information. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective area, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct. Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and  motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

University degree is required Graduate degree (e.g. MBA) and/or relevant designations (e.g. CPA, CA, CFA, FRM) preferred Strong understanding of the Bank’s strategic vision, operations, and financial sector risks. Superior communication skills and ability to write clearly and concisely. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to problem-solve and execute multiple projects at any given time. Superior interpersonal skills to work effectively with multiple internal stakeholders and management at various levels. Spanish language fluency would be an asset, but not required
