Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director, Student Center Operation for the department of Student Affairs – Student Centers and Activities. Reporting to the Executive Director for Student Centers and Activities, the Director has responsibilities for providing leadership, management, and oversight for planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and directing operations, facilities, services, staff, contracted vendors, tenant relationships, information desk, event management, and budgets of the 6 Student Centers and 1 ancillary building (31 Postal Plaza). In addition, the Director is a senior member of the
leadership team, supports and directs effective assessment, development, and implementation of policies, standards, learning outcomes, strategic initiatives, and project prioritization for the Student Center Unit. Through positive role modeling, actions, decisions, supervision, and coaching, assists in ensuring the Student Center Unit Service Standards are consistently applied.

Among the key duties of the position are the following: Responsible for the overall leadership and direction for the Student Center unit. The Directors actions and decisions are a critical part of providing a well-run, student-focused Student Center environment. They oversee the direction, management, and evaluation of all facility functions and staff to maintain a high level of service and ensures the Centers environment exudes a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere for a diverse Rutgers University Campus. The Director is also responsible to ensure the spaces and services within the Centers accommodate, facilitate, and support students, student organizations, university departments, Rutgers affiliates, and external agencies, organizations, and corporations. In particular, the Centers are open five to seven days a week and approximately 15 hours per day. Staff executes more than 12,000 bookings annually with over 350,000 attendees including University administrators, government officials, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and corporate representative. Some of the University offices located in the Student Centers and Student Activities Center include New Student Orientation, University Career Services, School of Arts and Sciences Academic Building, Rutgers Dining, Office of the Vice Chancellor, and the Basic Needs Center. In addition, the Busch Student Center has contracted food vendors consisting of five food services. The Center Director also has oversight of the Rutgers Zone in the Livingston Student Center, including the development and implementation of a business plan. This position hires, supervises, manages, coaches, and evaluates professional staff and has oversight of graduate interns and student staff. The Director supervises professional staff responsible for the day-to-day management of the Centers; ensuring staff successfully fulfill all aspects of event management for reservations in and adjacent to the Centers. The Center Director is responsible for a Student Center Operations budget of over $1M including student payroll of over $700,000. The Director will serve as the departmental expert on all day-to day operational procedures and policies while working closely with Facilities Management to continuously improve the maintenance and environmental services within the Center; ensuring the Service Level Agreement (SLA) is being successful implemented and adhered. They will also be responsible for working with Institutional Planning and Operations (IPO) in managing the day-to-day of capital improvement projects that occur throughout the Centers to ensure the highest quality of service to our students and guests. In consultation with the Executive Director of Student Centers and Activities, the Director will play a critical role in balancing operational needs with budgetary restraints to prioritize projects. The Director is also responsible for developing and implementing the training model for student staff and aligning to the Student Affairs Student Learning Outcomes. They will oversee the development and implementation of student leadership positions and establish them as high impact employment opportunities. The Director will have oversight of the recruitment for over 350+ students employed within the department. The Director is responsible for the leadership and direction of the payroll and hiring processes and procedures implemented by the department for student staff. Working collaboratively with the Central Business Office for the Division of Student Affairs, the Director will maintain oversight for all process including initial on-boarding, I-9’s leaves of absence, probations, and terminations to ensure they are streamlined and consistent across all Centers. The Director will also oversee the administration and procedures for the Federal Work Study Program within the department. The Director is responsible for the overall assessment and evaluation of the student employment program and student center operations and will work closely with the Director of Meetings and Events in assessing and evaluating events services. Providing leadership in department wide-assessment, they are responsible for educating staff in assessment methods and resources, formulate assessment policies and practices, engage in policy formation and implementation as it pertains to the strategic goals and direction of the department, and lead projects by designing and implementing data collection, analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data, writing reports of findings, and guiding staff through interpretations of findings that advance student learning and enhance the on-campus student experience. In addition to center specific responsibilities, the Director has the responsibility of assisting Departmental development, policies, procedures, trainings, and assessments. This requires working closely with Campus Programs, Involvement and Leadership, and Meetings and Events. Given the cross functional nature of the department of Student Centers and Activities, it is necessary for the Center Director to take an active leadership role in departmental and university initiatives. In addition to cross-collaboration within the department, the Director collaborates regularly with and is expected to maintain positive and productive working relationships with other divisional and university departments including Cultural Centers, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, Dining Service, Residence Life, Recreation, Offices of the Dean of Students, Public Safety, Risk Management, Procurement, Security and Technologies, and Institutional
Planning and Operations.
