Director, Supply Chain Operational Excellence

Position Mission: 

The Director, Operational Excellence provides vision, leadership and tactical coordination for Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement program.

This individual establishes long range operating, project and transformation plans and sets near term priorities, goals and improvement objectives for Distribution Operations and its functions. Allocates human resources and selects, acquires, and deploys appropriate methodologies to fulfill near term goals and commitments while building towards sustainable operational excellence. Motivate and lead the organization to achieve business objectives.

Position Performance Measures:

Define, design, and deploy Standard operating system (SOS)Support DCs through OpEx programs and SOS to transform culture and drive process to meet or exceed performance metricsDefine, design, and deploy loss analysis and loss elimination of the OpEx program being supportedDevelop and establish robust business partnership with operations and supporting functions

Responsibilities:

The following section contains the primary responsibilities for this position.  Job holder is responsible for performing any other duties as assigned by management.  List the significant activities that support that function, for instance manage the annual store audit process. Where possible use language that ties the job back to the company mission and vision.

Design, define and deploy a strategic roadmap for the Quality Management System across the entire Supply Chain that leads towards the Quality Excellence journey  Align the roadmap to the business strategic needs ensuring that the components and sequencing are leveraged to transform the ways of working while delivering the results for business successApply the methodologies of operational excellence in safety, quality, maintenance, training, zero loss analytics, project methodology, work design and 5s, standardized work, and early equipment and process management to create a holistic operating systemDesign the implementation plan, with proper sequencing of programs, locations, and management systems to embed the operational excellence system into the standard ways of working.Develop the appropriate training materials and delivery methods of the operational excellence programs to enable the organization to follow a standardized method across all sitesBuild a team of OPEX talent within the organization to accelerate and sustain the program with an ongoing continuous improvement mindset.Establish the necessary assessment and scorecard process to measure progress of the program’s deployment and the necessary review and response process to address opportunities for improvement and share best practicesLeverage operational excellence to be a business partner with operations leadership through strategy and policy deployment through the necessary review tiers in the organization to align the work to the strategic plans while engaging, enabling, and empowering all organizational levels to achieve continuous improvement.

Experience, Education, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or Related Technical disciplineMinimum 10 years of overall experience in Operations, Quality Assurance, or similar experienceExperienced in Operational Excellence Methodologies from Lean, Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance, and the Toyota Production SystemExperienced in implementing these methodologies as new processes in manufacturing and distribution environmentsStrong analytical skills and proficiency with data analysisExperienced in setting strategy, problem-solving, and contingency planningExperienced leading a team of direct reports and cross-functional partners Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skillsMBASimulation Software (Arena, etc)

Work Environment:

Typically located in a distribution center environment. Regular exposure to factors that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.Temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes. Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting equipment that may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward. Typically requires overnight travel 25% to 50% of the time.
