Job Description:

Responsible for the overall laboratory operations of the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology laboratories within Allina Health. In partnership with HR, Finance, Customer Experience, Hospital and Clinic Administration, and other health system functions, these duties include all aspects of the operations including: People functions, Finance/Budgeting, Compliance, and Relationships with both Internal and External Customers.

Principle Responsibilities

Provides leadership, development, and coordination of system–wide laboratory operational strategiesDirects, monitors and oversees implementation of process improvements to meet or enhance quality and service goals of business unit(s) and hospital(s) and clinics.Takes accountability and resolves next level escalation on customer service issues.Serves on interdisciplinary committees to plan and implement system initiatives.Develops and implements operations budgets for assigned cost centers.Actively monitors lab system financial, volume, productivity and billing data, and collaboratively implements tactics to meet or exceed targets.Implements cost reduction opportunities when identified.Provides recommendations for the capital budget.Manages employees and holds them accountable for role responsibilities, competencies, individual performance and goalsSupports the recruitment, interviewing, hiring and onboarding process across system lab teams.Conducts ongoing coaching, assessment, training, education and development of leaders and care team members.Completes and conducts employee performance reviews.Responsible for engagement of employees and leading annual department-wide engagement plans.Ensures compliance with all federal regulations including the College of American Pathologists, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.Develops and maintains laboratory policies and procedures in collaboration with key laboratory stakeholders.Partners with system, hospital, ambulatory and other internal and external stakeholders on laboratory operations and strategies.Cultivates relationships with external vendor partners to ensure strong service and patient care.Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field5+ years of progressive management accountability5+ years of progressive management accountability including leadership at a multi-site system level5+ years of supervisor or management experience


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree


Licenses/Certifications

Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) preferred or AMT certification preferred upon hire

Pay Range

Pay Range: $67.22 to $93.00 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience and education. Additional incentives may be available, including discretionary monetary bonuses, goal-based bonuses, and other financial incentives.
