General Summary:
The TechQuity Health Lab (THL) is a research lab at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago focused on identifying and building data and technology applications that can improve outcomes and reduce health gaps faced by underserved communities in the US and abroad. The THL is led by Dr. Juan Espinoza, Chief Research Informatics Officer for the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Broadly, the THL covers projects related to the use of data, technology, and informatics tools as applied to 1) Clinical Care, 2) Health Information Systems, 3) Medical Device Development and Regulation, and 4) Global Health.
The Director, TechQuity Health Lab (THL), serves as the scientific and administrative leader of the THL, and is a critical partner to Dr. Espinoza in both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning and growth for the lab. The Director will provide scientific and administrative oversight for research lab staff and students, as well as technical guidance to vendors and IT collaborators. This individual will make meaningful contributions to manuscript writing, data analysis, grant development, and grant administration.
Essential Job Functions:
Lead and co-author scientific abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
Contribute to writing grant applications and serve as co-investigator of funded grants.
Contribute to writing progress reports for partners and funding agencies.
Contribute to data analysis of THL projects.
Present research at scientific and professional conferences
Remain aware of advances in informatics research and integrate them appropriately.
Contribute to informatics architecture design and implementation for data, technology, and informatics projects in the THL.
Co-mentoring post-doctoral and pre-doctoral research trainees
Participate in and lead project and full team meetings.
Participate in and lead THL Symposia and Events
Participate in Lurie Children’s meetings and committees related to THL research and programs.
Serve as overall administrative leader of THL, including financial oversight of grant budgets, and manager for all THL research staff, including the authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
MD, MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent terminal doctorate in Medicine, Public Health, Informatics, Data Science, Math, Computer Science, or a related field of health
At least one year of postdoctoral research experience in informatics research
First-authored and co-authored research publications in informatics research
Record of high-quality scholarly productivity in informatics research
Experience as a co-investigator or postdoctoral researcher on a health research grant
Excellence in scientific writing and oral presentation skills
At least 5 years of experience working on common data models, data standards, interoperability, ontologies, tech stack design, and patient generated health data.
A long-term interest in a position contributing to the overall mission of the THL
Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a team
Ability to work in transdisciplinary teams across institutions and faculty
Ability to develop and maintain records of THL-related metrics
Excellent project management skills required
Develop and direct project budgets to achieve research and program objectives
Software, analytic, and programming skills in multiple applications, including R, Python, SQL, SSIS, REDCap, Java, etc.
Experience with cloud computing is a plus
Experience with geocoding is a plus
Experience with machine learning methods is strongly desired.
General familiarity with healthcare IT systems
