We are also an incredibly diverse organization, and we value each and every one’s talent and personality. **Role:** Diageo North America seeks a Federal Government Relations Trade and Tax lead to develop and deliver policy and advocacy strategy for the federal government and US-based international institutions that support Diageo’s business. This role will involve a keen understanding of the Congressional committees, federal government and international agencies that set trade policy and require high-level relationships across all. It will also require the ability to bring to bear Diageo’s corporate relations assets including corporate communications and corporate social responsibility as well as the ability to coordinate across other Diageo business organizations. The Director will establish relationships with external partner groups to support advocacy with government officials. The position reports to the Vice President of Government Relations. **Responsibilities:** **Strategy, planning, and implementation –** Develop and evolve policy positions and advocacy strategy in support of Diageo’s trade and tax government relations efforts. Regularly collaborate with internal partners including the corporate relations team, business units, and key global functions to align on positions and advocacy plans. Drive engagement and communicate policy priorities and positions to key internal and external constituencies. Implement, supervise, and adapt the plan as needed including clear goals and other metrics. **Policy, Legislative, and Regulatory analysis –** Keep abreast of current trends to anticipate opportunities and risks that emerge. Evaluate pending trade and tax legislation, policy, and regulations to understand impact to Diageo and help develop response. Build documents to brief company executives on legislative/regulatory matters, provide recommendations and communicate positions externally. Strong writing skills and PowerPoint proficiency are must haves. **Relationship Building -** Cultivate and build positive relationships with strategically important government officials, opinion leaders, third-party agencies, and other external partners to advance the company’s objectives. Engage trade associations and build industry coalitions to promote lobbying and policy positions. **Management –** Lead outside consultants and other resources that support the legislative and regulatory agenda to drive strategy, and help with messaging, external outreach, and the development of relevant communications tools. **What you'll bring to the team:** + College degree required, JD or LLM preferred. + 10+ years of dynamic experience with federal trade and tax legislation and advocacy. + People and issue management experience with validated skills in risk assessment, setting priorities and negotiating among opposing priorities. + Validated leadership/management, strategy planning, negotiation, and influence leadership skills. + Established network of contacts on relevant congressional committees and federal agencies. + Demonstrated understanding of the trade negotiation and congressional policymaking processes. + Successful multi-tasker experienced working with tight deadlines and contending demands. + Ability to translate business priorities into public policy strategy. + Validated business liaison capabilities including effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills; outstanding listening skills; ability to interact efficiently with all levels of the organization from senior executives to staff level; strong presentation skills to communicate and influence a wide range of audiences. + Experience working with multilateral international policy organizations on trade and tax a plus. **Diversity statement:** Celebrating our inclusive and diverse culture is core to Diageo’s purpose of “celebrating life every day everywhere”.
