Job Description:

The Director of Underwriting is responsible for the pricing, growth and profitability of new and inforce business for assigned partner companies.  

Ensure that overall team and department underwriting results are profitable by overseeing the underwriting process, providing training and mentoring, conducting results analysis, reporting, auditing and implementing action plans to improve pricing results.Manage a team of underwriters establishing and maintaining an environment where people are focused and disciplined to meet departmental objectives.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically while performing Group Underwriting risk analysis Demonstrated proficiency with complex, technical situations, i.e. non-traditional risks, exception underwriting and working outside the guidelinesFull understanding of the underwriting mechanics and pricing for all types of disability risks Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs and other presentations as a subject matter expert and speak in a public setting to both small and large groupsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbalCreative problem solving, decision making, time management and organizational skillsStrong math aptitudeWell organized and able to handle multiple prioritiesProactive handling of customer service issuesAbility to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, partners, vendors and others with whom FullscopeRMS does businessDemonstrated people management and mentoring skills to assist employees in various stages of technical development 

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years group disability underwriting experience requiredCollege degree preferredStrong knowledge of the reinsurance process preferredMastery of Disability products including product provisions, plan design, pricing and contractual benefits, knowledge of Life products preferredDemonstrated knowledge of industry and marketplace trends

Responsibilities

Accountable for driving profitable pricing levels for assigned partners on new business and renewalsSupporting growth objectives for assigned partnersManaging and developing a team of underwriters including recruiting

Salary Range: $145,600 - $218,400

Your actual base salary will be determined based on your unique skills, qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location. In addition to your base salary, this position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive award based on your individual performance as well as the overall performance of the business.
