Read more: careers.bms.com/working-with-us . **Summary:** + The US & Puerto Rico Health and Welfare Benefits Strategist leads the development, design, maintenance and implementation an overarching Benefits strategy that delivers a healthy workforce for BMS. The role will also lead the governance strategy for Health and Welfare benefits. + A strong emphasis is placed on plan design, market trends, regulatory compliance, data driven decision making, vendor relations, and budget oversight to maintain and enhance the effectiveness of benefits offerings. The role also includes the integration of benefits for newly acquired companies. + The position partners closely with various stakeholders including local market leaders, human resources, finance/tax, legal, global procurement, local consultants, and People Services. This position also partners with, helps select, and manage, external vendors and consultants. **Detailed Position Responsibilities:** + Provides strategic oversight for all aspects of the company's employee benefits policy and plans including Active and Retiree Health Care; Welfare and other related benefits plans such as Disability plans (Short and Long Term), Dental, Pharmacy Benefit Program, Life, HMO programs, voluntary, leaves and absence. + Designs and delivers innovative, cost- effective health and wellness solutions to evolve Global Benefits to be a more strategic and forward-thinking function. + Works closely with Finance, Actuaries, Legal, and the company's Shared Services facility to ensure the company's benefit plans, programs and initiatives are competitive, cost efficient and compliant. Reviews plan documents and contracts for compliance with plan provisions and provide written analysis of potential contract additions. Coordinates legal review to ensure that ERISA and other global statutory legislative requirements are met. + Conceptualizes and presents business case for changes, and selects and oversees the various benefits consulting and services as needed. + Maintains external focus and knowledge of cutting edge benefits programs, trends, and best practices. Stays alert and ahead of emerging government and IRS regulations, practices, policies, evaluating the appropriate strategies and suggesting changes in policies and programs as necessary. + Responsible for managing the Company programs in compliance with regulations and aligned with Total Rewards Philosophy, analyzes claim experience and vendor relationships assuring competitive and cost effective benefit delivery + Manages the ERISA appeal process, assuring compliance with fiduciary responsibilities and plan provisions, in close alignment with Legal team + Assists in M&A transactions as needed + Partners closely with the benefits operations team to ensure effective benefits delivery and operational excellence + Oversees the effective communication of the company's employee benefit plans, programs, changes, etc. Articulates the value proposition of BMS' health, benefit and well-being offerings to employees in a simple, yet effective manner. Works closely with the Total Rewards Communications team as required. + Proactively leverages data analytics to inform benefit vision, planning, and strategic mid and long-term goals. + Designs, develop and delivers training and informational programs on benefits to People Services and other HR professionals and employees at all levels + Represents company at Benefits related professional organizations and monitors/influences potential regulatory and/or legislative changes. **Must have requirements:** + Thorough understanding of the Benefits function from both a strategic standpoint as well as a strong technical design background and financial acumen + Benefits professional with excellent experience with a wide-range of creative health and welfare benefits issues, including qualified plan design, compliance with Federal and State regulations and funding alternatives. Must be a creative thinker who can perform in a fast moving and constantly changing environment. + Strong leadership and project management skills from design to the implementation + Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of progressively responsible positions in benefits, preferably some exposure to global benefits programs and administration. MBA or equivalent preferred in HR management or related field + Experience in analyzing competitive benefit practices. Comprehensive technical knowledge of ERISA, regulatory requirements. + Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual skills + Strong people skills, ability to manage a crossfunctional project team, with confidence and ability to challenge traditional assumptions with creative imagination and effective solutions, and high energy level with strong work ethic. + Ability to distill and present complex information and required decisions to executive leadership + Acquaintance with benefits standards and policies, especially for M&A integration. + Ability to travel occasionally **Ideal Candidates Would Also Have:** + Bachelor's Degree and/or the equivalent knowledge gained through progressive work experience. + Consulting skills/ impact and influence abilities/ strong stakeholder management skills + Experience working with retiree medical and Medicare waiver programs + Ability to present complex information in a clear and convincing way to staff, callers, and functional business and technical groups. \#LI-Hybrid If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn't perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway.
