To learn more about us please visit our website http://aabs.tamu.edu/ What we want The Director is responsible for all departmental operations related to fiscal administration, managing the accounting, purchasing, strategic financial planning and related activities for the assigned customer department(s). Responsible for identifying fiscal compliance issues and solutions; overseeing fiscal reports, evaluating processes and procedures, and providing supervision and direction for support staff. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Academic Accounting & Business Services. What you need to know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience. Required Education and Experience + Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Ten years of experience in operational management of increasingly large groups or units. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. + Knowledge of financial management system and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to work independently once given a project. + Ability to apply rules and regulations in a complex environment. + Strong decision making skills. + Ability to compile complex bank statements. + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. Preferred Qualifications + Ten years of experience in higher education accounting or financial management. + Experience using Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.), FAMIS/Canopy Accounting system, Laserfiche, Business Objects, Aggiebuy and Concur. + Experience in departmental accounting, budgeting, reporting, and the annual budget process (preferably with the Texas A&M University System). + Experience in handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment where providing excellent customer service and follow-up is a priority. + Experience managing business operations, task management, and supervising others. + Knowledge of TAMU fiscal and administrative procedures. Essential Duties/Tasks Leadership + Member of the AABS leadership team and working in concert with other leadership team members to promote an environment of integrity and collegiality that stimulates staff to work at their optimum performance levels. + Responsible for supervision and training of finance personnel assigned to support the assigned division(s) and sub-units. + Reviews employee performance goals and allocates professional development budgets to meet department goals and objectives. + Participates in budget decisions on hardware/software purchases and upgrades and other resources needed for optimal team performance. + Updates position descriptions, reclassification requests and provides regular feedback to individual team members on their performance. + Oversees daily operations of the team. + Ensures team members are cross trained appropriately to easily pivot because of seasonal workloads and special projects as needed within AABS. + Drafts business related correspondence as needed. + Monitors compliance with all unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures and helps other team members stay abreast of these issues. + Uses discretion and independent judgment to propose solutions to complex, non-routine situations. Accounting/Management + Manages the accounting, strategic budget, planning, and related activities for the customer units. + Responsible for assessing, changing, and establishing proper internal controls procedures. + Oversees the implementation of these procedures in all areas and monitors them for exceptions. + Responsible for oversight of all accounting functions. + Identifies potential fiscal problems and compliance issues and makes recommendations for resolution to leadership – either AABS or customer units – whichever is most appropriate for the situation. Department Liaison to Finance and Business Services units, Workday Budget Contact + Department liaison for all finance, accounting, contract and procurement communication between customer department leadership and respective units within the Division of Finance & Business Services or other entities. + Implements communication procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable state and university rules. + Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving any issues or concerns on these transactions. + Serves as the Workday budget contact– identifies and updates salary sourcing as needed. + Collaborates with HROE, customer leadership and others to ensure salary costs and personnel budgets are monitored and maintained. Customer Service + Provides courteous, efficient, and timely customer service to the units being serviced by AABS. Communicates and distributes information on guidelines and procedures pertaining to AABS processes and procedures through the weekly Accounting News listserv emails or other appropriate channels. + Manages conflict among team member(s) and/or customers. + Handles issues requiring escalation and uses discretion to determine when further escalation is required. + Provides one-on-one/group training with AABS customers as requested. + May present at group training sessions. + Maintains a broad knowledge/understanding of payroll and human resource issues enough to redirect customers to the appropriate contact as needed. Budgets and Reporting + Oversees the preparation of monthly, annual, and specific financial and managerial reports and projections. + Monitors allocations, expenditures, and revenue generated by the department. + Provides insight into the budget health of all areas to leadership + Assists customers in developing unit specific budgets, personal plans, software and technology purchases. + Approves all departmental expenditures in TAMU finance systems and escalates any questionable items to leadership. Special Projects + Works on special projects as needed – may include annual inventories of departmental assets, ad hoc reporting, pilot programs for new initiatives within AABS, Finance & Business Services, or customer department .
