**Summary**
We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Accounting to join our team. This pivotal role plays a key part in Sparks’ financial data integrity, revenue recognition, and month-end closing process under the guidance of the VP, Controller. The Director will be an impactful leader, responsible for implementing key controls around financial data, ensuring results comply with GAAP, delivering insightful data analysis on operations, identifying any benefits/exposures/concerns in the monthly account reconciliations and coordinating efforts for the annual external audit.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and possess 10 or more years of general accounting experience. The candidate should be a people leader, detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills and an aptitude for systems and automation.
This position will support our Finance team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office 2-3 days per week. This position is based out of Philadelphia, PA.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department.
+ Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
+ Train, supervise, develop, and motivate assigned staff to create a highly effective, cohesive team providing excellent results and customer service.
+ Establishment and documentation of internal controls.
+ Ensure that processes and procedures are thoroughly documented, and controls are in place for areas of responsibility.
+ Use metrics and data analysis to identify and drive process improvements and operational excellence.
+ Proactively manage issues impacting the accuracy or timeliness of month-end close.
+ Enhance team productivity by developing and implementing key performance indicators (KPIs).
+ Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
+ Provide value-added reporting and insights for leadership to support decision-making.
+ In collaboration with the VP Controller, oversee system implementations/upgrades for all systems as related to accounting.
+ Compile and provide necessary information for external auditors.
+ Foster close, supportive, and professional relationships with other Corporate Departments, including HR, Accounting and Finance, Account Management, Account Directors, and IT.
+ Undertake other duties as assigned to support the accounting and finance team.
**Education & Experience**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
+ A minimum of 10 years of experience in the accounting field.
+ Proven ability to manage a team and create an atmosphere of trust and integrity.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus.
+ Ability to communicate accounting and financial information effectively to various stakeholders.
+ Strong technical accounting knowledge and expertise.
