Director Ambulatory Care Services

Summary:

The Director Ambulatory Care Services reports to the Senior Vice President. Provides comprehensive direction translates and supports the goals and objectives policies and procedures and ensures high standards of care for ambulatory patients at Morton Hospital Foxborough ambulatory site. Directs the activities of the Ambulatory Services Department to include development and implementation of policy and procedure operation of programs and services and direction of personnel. Areas of administrative and clinical responsibility include all medical and surgical specialty clinics at the Brown University Health campus.

Responsibilities:

Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating the corporate values and principles creating and maintaining effective positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs. Ensures that needs are met responds appropriately to difficult interactions and educates all staff management and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the employees department functions and organizations. Creates employee ownership for their careers and success by providing staff with positive and actionable feedback to maximize the utilization and potential of the organization�s human resources.

Develops monitors and evaluates both capital and operating budgets for Ambulatory Care Services. Monitors and evaluates revenue and expense and prepares monthly variance reports as required. Assure the financial goals of the organization and business unit are met. Oversees the reconciliation of patient charges and patient revenue. Explores cost savings opportunities. Reviews all unit acquisitions for supplies instruments and equipment.

 

Acts as a resource to develop product lines and assess programs including determining market position and providing analysis for decision making assisting in the preparation of business plans capital and resource planning evaluating performance and monitoring for quality assurance and improvement.

Evaluates patient care rendered in relation to patient need and measures against nursing care standards. Monitors and evaluates assignments of patient care to the appropriate nursing personnel based on patient needs and acuity level.

Evaluates the documentation of care.

Works in a collaborative manner with other department managers and physicians both at Morton Hospital and throughout Brown University Health to promote the optimal delivery of services.

Participates as an active member of various hospital committees as assigned by the Senior Vice President.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection controls in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Identifies educational needs of employee and provides for opportunities and professional growth. Directly or indirectly assesses and develops staff nurses and other employees by monitoring and evaluating the nursing care provided. Based on assessment establishes and implements action plans to promote the ongoing development of staff competence.

Evaluates individual performance of each staff member through on going assessment and formal annual review. Counsels employees on performance issues and reviews performance goals with each employee. Follows hospital procedure to resolve disciplinary issues. Schedules regular employee meetings for the entire staff to provide employee owner information.

In collaboration with physicians and senior management analyzes space utilization in department and related proposals for change. For major capital improvements to facilities and /or equipment consults with hospital facilities operations manager and prepares preliminary drafts of specifications. Reviews proposals and examines same for appropriateness in order to formulate recommendations on their approval/rejection prior to submission to review by others.

Develops and implements plans for the operation of programs and services. Develops implements monitors and evaluates systems to provide efficient effective quality services to ambulatory and cancer center patients. Investigates methods of operation that will provide improved customer service in a cost-effective manner.

Develops specific staffing patterns for ambulatory services provides and maintains support documentation for patterns based on patient need.

Sets unit-based goals and monitors activities toward the attainment of those goals.

Collaborates with the physician group to identify quality improvement opportunities in both settings and works with the group to establish quality goals.

Manages the physician group practice within the outpatient clinics related to daily scheduling productivity medical record supervision and works to assure a high level of physician satisfaction. Ensure effective and timely patient throughput in the clinic.

In concert with senior management and physicians works to identify services required for ambulatory care and implements those services within the scope of financial responsibility.

Participates in marketing activities that may enhance unit volume. Initiates and /or participates in external organization activities or system sponsored events that may enhance unit revenue.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree and Master�s Degree in Nursing Business Hospital or Health Care Administration.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island

Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation through American Heart Association upon hire

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:

Seven to ten years progressively responsible hospital management experience preferably in an academic medical center.

QUALIFICATIONS � SKILLS:

Applicable general knowledge of: Human resource management; Financial systems payroll expense and budget management; Strategic planning and implementation; Information systems; Quality improvement process management; General understanding of reimbursement issues; Trend analysis. Strong interpersonal organization written and verbal skills must be demonstrated. Superior financial skills including accounting and forecasting. Ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels and across multiple departments/service lines; demonstrated leadership skills across a broad range of constituents. Ability to work independently to prioritize and to multi-task. Ability to resolve complex issues in a collaborative fashion. Ability to assess coach schedule and train all non-clinical support staff for customer service excellence; exhibit commitment to improving service for internal and external customers. Ability to manage multiple complex and concurrent projects. Exceptional judgment and discretion in interacting with physicians and senior management on sensitive issues. Ability to identify utilize and leverage resources to accomplish a goal. Possess creativity self-motivation and excellent judgment for planning and implementing new policies/procedures. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

SUPERVISION:

Supervisory responsibility in excess of 50 FTEs directly or indirectly.
