Director Analytics Business Intelligence
**Description** **THE ROLE** This person will work remotely and can be based within our 7-state region of operation: WA, OR, AK, MT NM, CA and TX. The Director of Analytics is responsible for ensuring system, division, and ministry leaders have the data and information they need to advance key strategies and initiatives. The Director will utilize evidence-based approaches to analytics and data science and will incorporate front-line operational knowledge to develop information products and services that meet users' needs. This role is critical in supporting the system's commitment to being a leader in population health, health equity, care experience, operational excellence, and quality. This role will also support the pressing problem facing our system and healthcare generally in the U.S. to improve the care we deliver while reducing its cost, which will fulfill our mission and serve all, especially those who are most vulnerable This position fills a key role as a strategic partner to system, division and ministry leaders in providing data and analytic solutions to enable better management, drive change, and inform decision making regarding programs and initiatives. This position manages both direct and virtual teams from concept phase through implementation, flexibly responding to needs and enhancing the internal capability within the organization to develop and drive change, facilitate alignment, and demonstrate return on population health programs and initiatives. The position requires superior organizational and communication skills, and an ability to organize activities and move initiatives forward in an ambiguous environment. This leader is responsible for coordination of various sources of data to provide sophisticated analyses and compelling data visualization tools for assessments of opportunities and providing strategic direction to system, division and ministry leaders. This role is a hands-on position responsible for both leadership and completing analytic and reporting projects. The person in this role will possess business, strategic, analytic acumen as well as technical expertise. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + Strategic: + Proactively guide analytic projects encouraging others to see the big picture through established organizational strategies + Advocate for data driven solutions and catalyze change with system and regional partners. + Sets strategic objectives, priorities, and direction for the team in conjunction with other department leaders. + Helps teams see what is possible and what could be, evaluates possibilities, encourages others to think outside the box, and helps teams establish a clear vision. + Balance system, region, and department requests and needs and requests for information. + Management: + Provides management oversight to staff. This includes- hiring new staff, quarterly/annual performance meetings, day to day interaction to set priorities, and assistance with professional development of staff in the department. + Emphasis placed on career development planning with each employee. + Mentor, educate, assist with analytic and data visualization design, and peer review business partner projects. + Responsible for the ongoing development and revision of performance standards for all job categories in department(s). + Oversees managers and staff to manage to balance both region wide reporting and analytics needs and system office requests for information. + Collaborate with system level analytic and data departments to ensure collaboration across teams, avoid duplication of development offerings, and guiding caregivers to the most appropriate analytic resource to meet their needs. + Direct a team of diversely skilled analytics experts to grow and develop these caregivers with the expectation of excellence and customer service. + Operational: + Responsible for vetting and developing reporting and analytics needs with system, division, and ministry partners. + Develop and maintain a project reporting prioritization process for determining deployment of reporting and analytics resources and manage the volume, resolution, and management of analytic and reporting requests. + Apprise the Chief of Analytics of projects and requests for prioritization, strategy, and design input. + Train system internal partners, leaders, and super users on data analytic reports, dashboards, and tools. Assistance in division and ministry training may be requested at times. + Review survey and feedback from divisions/service areas. Develop goals, KPIs, and a plan with Chief of Analytics. Implement plan. + Translate complex quantitative information into presentations and reports that are easily understood. Summarize and report key analytic findings as required. + Lead the team in developing new reporting, analytic, and visualization self-service tools. + Balance self-service product development with delivering ad hoc analyses and externally or internally sourced data. + Partners closely with different Teams to facilitate bi-directional collaboration. The Director of Analytics will share data and analytics strategy, division, ministry and service area insights, successes, and concerns with the different Teams and use this relationship to share information and escalate issues to appropriate leaders. + The Director of Analytics will engage sponsors and end users in an iterative understanding of customer needs and potential solutions to ensure developed products deliver real value. + Partners closely with the Chief of Analytics to strategically move Analytics to the next level. The Chief of Analytics will provide goals, projects, and high level business requirements to the Director of Analytics. The Director will keep the Chief apprised of completed and pipeline requests and advise the Chief on future direction and needs. The Chief and Director will review high priority and system requests and priorities, understanding the cross discipline and continuum impact and strategy, and design solutions. + Contribute to PSJH’s cultural narrative in a manner personally meaningful and fulfilling. **QUALIFICATIONS** + Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or related discipline; or equivalent educ/experience + Master's Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or related discipline; or equivalent educ/experience (preferred) + 10 or more years of combined work experience in health care and/or analytics is required + 8 years of progressively increasing responsibility in management level (project and/or people) experience with specific data management, analytics, data science, platform development, or analytics program management experience. + 5 years of advanced experience working with healthcare data and healthcare operations + 5 years of experience with Data Visualization and Reporting Tools: Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or other similar software (preferred) + 5 years of experience with Analytics Tools: Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse, Alteryx, Tableau, MicroStrategy, or other similar software (preferred) + Experience in interpretation and development of quantitative and qualitative analyses + Experience in business and clinical modeling concepts, methodologies and tools. + Change management, facilitation, and process improvement methodologies with substantial project management experience of complex, multi-regional, strategically important initiatives + Builds and manages effective teams + Flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment + Excellent collaboration and team building skills + Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion + Demonstrates a high commitment to quality + Ability to inspire and develop staff and team members + Ability to analyze and interpret financial data + Demonstrated analytical skills + Ability to balance system, region, and department requests and needs and requests for information + Ability to lead/manage multiple teams and initiative + Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure + Excellent collaboration and team building skills + Strong verbal communication and listening skills + Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents + Friendly and service-oriented.
