The Opportunity
An outstanding opportunity exists to join MetLife’s Structured Products team. As the Director, Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), you will be responsible for various aspects of credit analysis and managing the CMBS portfolio. Responsibilities, outlined below, are well integrated within a strong team environment. Ideally you will have a deep understanding of various types of CMBS deals (Conduit, SASB, CRE CLO, Agency) and will be proficient in various aspects of managing a large CMBS portfolio and formulating buy/sell investment recommendations for new issue and secondary offerings.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
* Perform ongoing surveillance analysis on CMBS portfolio and make investment recommendations.
* Formulate buy and/or sell recommendations in both new issue and secondary markets by conducting credit, structural, and legal analysis.
* Lead effort to enhance existing technologies, utilized for surveillance and investment analysis, such as develop models to forecast credit performance.
* Analyze and manage large data sets utilized for ongoing risk and investment analysis.
* Develop and maintain relationships and interact independently with various constituents (sell side analysts, rating agencies, bankers, etc.) to stay ahead of underwriting and structural trends and other market developments.
* Collaborate with trading, portfolio management, and other credit analysts in all aspects of managing the CMBS portfolio, such as risk management reports and client request and presentations.
* Conduct top-down and bottom-up analyses including macroeconomic drivers, commercial real estate sector themes, detailed property and loan level analysis as well as deal-level analysis.
* Actively identify investment and derisking opportunities
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
* 7-10 years of direct industry experience in CMBS investment analysis and commercial real estate loan underwriting
* Strong quantitative and analytical skills with ability to analyze and synthesize large data sets.
* Self-starter, with ability to constantly show initiative and work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
* Critical for candidate to be detail oriented and work under tight deadlines.
* Strong ability to multitask, self-manage deadlines, and shift priorities.
* Advanced proficiency in tools such Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
* Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
Additional Skills
* MBA (or equivalent) and/or CFA preferred.
* Working knowledge of Trepp, Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin
