Compliance Director - Compliance

Our team is growing, we are looking for a Director role to join our Japan Market Compliance team. This director role will oversee all teams in the Compliance organization, will be acting in the capacity as the Deputy to the Vice President – Japan Chief Compliance Officer. This role will be supporting VP in driving operational efficiencies of daily compliance operational activities in critical areas, the development and execution of compliance strategies, and supporting the business and senior management on high-impact local and global projects from compliance perspective. This is an exciting with the opportunity to shape the compliance strategy for a prestigious payment and credit card company in financial services industry, managing compliance and regulatory risks whilst working closely with the business partners to ensure meeting regulatory expectations. This is a role with extensive exposures, and it shows a clear career path.

 

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Change Management, Compliance Programs, Compliance Operation

Monitor regulatory change and provide concise impact assessments to key stakeholders, in collaboration with the General Counsel’s Organization, on regulatory development that may impact Japan business, supporting where needed. Drive the efforts for operational efficiencies in various compliance programs (e.g., Regulatory Change Program, Compliance Risk Assessment, Compliance Testing, Key Risk Report) Participate and contribute to industry discussions on regulatory policy developments. Design tailored presentations, briefing notes, and management information for senior management (Executive Team, Operational Risk Committee etc.) and other key stakeholders ensuring that all material aspects are highlighted, and appropriately escalated. Design Compliance team structure, identify operational efficiencies, implement talent development strategies, and deliver compliance transformations.

 

 Governance & Reporting

Provide Compliance subject matter expertise on Japan regulatory requirements as they apply in the Payments and Credit Card sector. Collaborate with colleagues from the business as well as internal Risk Management and Compliance teams to identify current and emerging risks, advising on steps required to mitigate these risks. Assist in the preparation of regular reports to senior management and the Executive Team/ Legal Entity Governance Committees as appropriate, providing information on the Compliance plan, performed activities, results of second line of defense monitoring and testing activities, compliance-related risks and indicators, and the escalation of compliance issues and incidents. Assist in the development and maintenance of compliance program-related policies. 

Desired skills and experience

Preferred: Master’s degree in law or other relevant fields, experience leading regulatory liaison and on-site exams in a financial services firm, or experience as an active lead in a consultancy capacity, regulatory body, or law firm. At least 5 years of people management experience, experience of leading mid-large size of compliance team, and direct experience in compliance transformation projects. Able to motive team members and influence key stakeholders. Firsthand experience in implementing programs to address key regulatory risks in the areas of Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering, and Consumer Protection and else that are relevant to financial services industry. Ability to interpret the regulatory requirements, guidance, and developments and clearly communicate implications to a range of audiences, including Executive Team and Risk Committee. Strong knowledge of the payments and consumer credit regulatory framework in Japan, a plus. Strong analytical skills and experience with reporting, ability to drive insights from the data and provide actionable steps. Excellent relationship building skills, clearly demonstrates cultural awareness and an ability to build lasting partnerships across local and international teams. Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills and must be able to manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines.
