The Director & Counsel will support the development and execution of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy within the Global Services Group (GSG), and GSG’s focus on transforming both colleague and customer experiences through innovative solutions. Additionally, this role will focus on supporting the development and launch of novel marketing products and strategies within the US Consumer Marketing team (USCM). This position will report to a Senior Counsel. Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role: + Support development and launch of servicing and marketing AI use cases. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams and colleagues across the General Counsel’s Organization, including other lawyers supporting various AI initiatives, as well as other groups, like Privacy and Compliance. + Support global scaling of AI use cases across markets, collaborating with market lawyers and local compliance and risk leads. + Coordinate development of enterprise positions and standards on novel issues presented by AI and other innovative technology in servicing and marketing use cases. + Drive consistent legal frameworks and sharing of best practices through effective collaboration with other business unit lawyers working on AI initiatives. + Provide thought leadership and creative problem-solving on how to responsibly and ethically accelerate innovation within GSG and USCM. + Monitor external perspectives and developments in AI. + Partner closely with marketing teams to help them manage legal risk and deliver on their mission to deploy compelling marketing and provide innovative and cutting-edge experiences to current and prospective customers. + Support development of customer and colleague user experiences; draft and revise marketing claims, disclosures and other customer communications. + Advise on servicing and marketing initiatives with nuanced, risk-based analysis, creative problem solving, agility, consistency, and a deep understanding of a wide range of American Express products and services. + Support special projects that require subject matter expertise in the area of marketing law as it applies to all media, including social media, affiliate marketing and influencer channels. + Develop strong working relationships with executive leaders and stakeholders. **Qualifications:** Minimum Qualifications: + J.D. with admission to practice law in the United States; admission to the New York in good standing or eligibility to do so is preferred + 6 years of work experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate legal environment + Be passionately curious about AI and a voracious learner. + Be willing to dive deep on the technology as part of the legal analysis + Passion for working towards creative, solution-oriented outcomes that effectively address legal requirements and resolve issues with practical, risk-based solves. + Translate complex matters into digestible decisions and advice for business partners and other stakeholders + Comfortable navigating ambiguity + Experience advising business teams, including the review of new user experiences + Experience in and passion for leading teams and talent development + Passion for developing a deep understanding of business needs and objectives with a close partnership with business clients + Strong communication skills with ability to convey advice clearly and synthesize complex issues + Must work well in cross-functional team settings + Demonstrated experience in gaining credibility, managing expectations, and developing strong working relationships with legal colleagues and clients **Preferred qualifications:** + Knowledge of advertising and marketing laws (specifically FTC regulations and guidelines) and experience with their practical application to marketing content (native advertising, offers, claims, etc.) + Knowledge of advertising laws, including FTC guidelines, state UDAP laws, and CFPB UDAAP principles **Additional Details:** + Location: New York, NY + Travel:Little to none **Qualifications** Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
