Director Data Governance

To help achieve this mission, reporting to the Vice President of Business Intelligence, the Head of Data Governance will lead the design and implementation of a transformative data governance program. In this role, you will collaborate with senior leaders to shape the future of our data landscape, ensuring our data assets are leveraged to drive strategic decisions and meaningful impact.

Core Responsibilities 

Strategic Framework Leadership: Develop and implement an innovative data governance framework that aligns with our mission and regulatory requirements. Cultivate a data literate culture at LLS across all functions and at all levels. Executive Policy Development: Create, communicate, and enforce comprehensive data governance policies, standards, and procedures at the organizational level. Senior Collaboration: Partner with executive leadership and key stakeholders to set and prioritize and lead data governance initiatives that support our strategic goals. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Establish and lead authoritative data governance committees and stewards that establish official data definitions, relationships, acceptable use, visibility, and appropriate accessibility of data assets. Mentorship and Guidance: Provide expert guidance and support to data owners and stewards in best practices for data governance. Collaborate closely with the Data Privacy and Protection team to ensure alignment among data governance, privacy, and protection. Define and lead data quality standards to be applied in close coordination with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Scientists. Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and report on data governance metrics and performance indicators to executive leadership. Continuous Improvement Leadership: Identify and address data governance issues, risks, and opportunities for continuous enhancement and innovation.Industry Leadership: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, and integrate them into the organization's data governance strategy. 

Minimum Requirements 

8+ years of proven expertise in data governance, data management, or related fields. Comprehensive understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices. Exceptional project management skills with a proven track record of leading cross-functional and executive-level teams. Superior communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. Highly self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Education and Experience 

Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Experience in large non-profit and/or life sciences sector is highly desirable. Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), or similar are a plus. 

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, such as DAMA-DMBOK, COBIT, or equivalent. Extensive familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data governance. Proven expertise in data quality management and data stewardship practices.Proficiency with leading data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, and Alation. Experience leading Master Data Management (MDM) programs highly desired.Awareness of AI Governance principles and practices Strong leadership and influencing skills to drive organizational change and strategic initiatives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to executive leadership. Ability to develop and deliver impactful training and awareness programs on data governance and data literacy. Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

Work is typically performed in a office environment Ability to sit or stand - or alternate between sitting and standing - for extended periods of time. Ability to enter text or data into a computer by means of a traditional keyboard.Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken and written word to accurately impart information and instructions to others. Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech in person, over the phone and through computer speakers. Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches, including use of computer screens.Some weekend and evening hours may be required. Average salary range is $112,000 - $172,000, open to further discussion based on geography.Occasional travel for in-person meetings
