Director Endoscopy, GI and Surgical Services

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Service Lines, and working closely with the Chief of Surgery and the Chief of the GI division, the Director is a key member of the leadership team for Endoscopy, GI and Surgical Services at CMH.  The Director is accountable for the effective management and delivery of care to all patients of the CMMC Endoscopy department and related Gi and surgical practices and programs (i.e., GI practice operations, including hospital and both general and advanced GI procedures throughout the heath system locations, assigned surgical practices, including General/Acute Care Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery and Urology). The position will be responsible for creating systems that facilitate communication, coordination, and collaboration among disciplines in the provision of Endoscopy, GI and Surgical services.

The Director works within a multidisciplinary team in the provision of these services. This role will also work collaboratively with external providers and practice groups to develop and support clinical and program partnerships to drive growth. This position will provide input into the preparation of operating and capital budgets for affiliated departments; development of marketing plans; and maintaining knowledge of reimbursement regulations. The Director will effectively communicate with the medical and surgical faculty and staff in planning for change and providing optimal patient care services.  This position will act as a resource within the institution and to the community in his/her area of expertise.

Key responsibilities include patient care, development of systems of care for the program, staff development and education team building and support of quality improvement programs, as well a nursing practice within the Endoscopy Department.  This position will have a dotted line to the System Chief Nursing Officer and will be responsible to ensure alignment of nursing practice with the broader organizational goals and requirements.  The Director continually works closely with the various Chiefs, Medical Directors, and the Vice President of Service Lines and various leaders within the health system, for the coordination and implementation of process improvement strategies and new procedures.

Essential Duties:

Coordinates, oversees, and assures the smooth operations and workflows of the clinic functionsProvide day-to-day direction and coordination of assigned services and programs; ensuring the assigned practice manager(s), clinics and programs are oriented towards patient care, comfort, and convenience.Plan and coordinate the care of the patient entering the assigned services, clinics and program for screening or diagnostic services, assisting them through the points of care as appropriate; primary care, medical imaging, general surgery, oncology and other disciplines as needed.Monitor flow of patients, work to resolve patient delays, plan and/or create systems that allow for patient to have access to services in a timely manner.Demonstrate clinical knowledge by acting as a resource; work with providers and affiliated clinic staff to create a team approach to care.Work with providers and staff to identify issues of mutual concern, solve problems, review staffing plans and overall operation of the program. Maintains throughput and access to services.Monitors patient volume to ensure volume budgets and goals are achievedPromotes a service-oriented team approach to the services and work environment of assigned services, clinics and programsDevelop and implement an ongoing process for problem-solving that includes input from all CMH stakeholders and representatives.Organizes, coordinates, and delegates work, ensuring clinic operations run in an efficient and effective mannerMaintains skill in back office and front office roles so as to provide back up for these positions as directed by licensure and scope of practiceDevelops and implements procedures and protocols related to front office and back office processesResearches and resolves issues and concerns regarding office operations, functions, and related mattersPromotes and maintains effective communication among staff, providers and managementDemonstrates exceptional customer service in a highly stressful environmentAddresses client concerns promptly using customer-service

Oversees staff by providing direction and guidance to maintain a team environment through training, recognition/evaluation and in-service educationRecruit, orient, and train practice manager(s) and staff. Assures that services and programs support and maintain any applicable accreditations, and JCAHO preparedness.Participates in community marketing of assigned services and programsFacilitate and participate in development of strategic planning and implementation of the CMH goals for designated services.Act as a spokesperson for the endoscopy, GI and Surgical related services within CMH, other stake holders and in the community.Represent the team on appropriate committees and interact with community, regional and national agencies related to oncology services as needed.Collaborates with community providers and clinics, offering marketing materials, explaining services being offered that can support their practices and patient populationsCollaborates with other Clinic Managers in the effective identification and resolution of office practice issuesParticipates in the financial performance of the clinicProvides input into the annual budget process and monthly review of financial reportsResponsible for meeting year end flex budgets and labor targets for expenses and FTE’sOversees Endoscopy and clinic office purchases of supplies and equipment, controlling and reducing expensesOversees staffing plan utilizing flex budget to increase or decrease staffing levels as neededParticipates in special projects in collaboration with staff, acting as project lead as neededThe Director will help to develop, oversee, and implement key strategies adopted by the CMH system and by the Endoscopy, GI and Surgical services to support various service lines at CMH (oncology, surgery, medical specialties, primary care, etc.). Along with the Vice President of Service Lines, the Chief of Surgery, and the Chief of GI, identifies, implements and operationalizes strategic partnerships with various third party clinical and service providers.Operationalizes key components of joint ventures, joint operating agreements, and other strategic partnerships relating to the overall clinical and financial success of these service lines. Implements operational plans to meet strategic, financial and clinical goalsPerforms research and analysis on special projects as assignedMaintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and organization offered programsParticipate in professional organizations in specialty area and utilize research as the basis for improving patient careStay abreast of new technology in related equipment and supplies; act as a resource to other disciplines.Remain current on new treatments and best practices for the operations and delivery of care for cancer and surgical oncology services.Adjust and improve systems as necessary to respond to changing health care environment to meet cost effective quality care.Maintains reliable attendance by adhering to hospital system Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration and kindness), continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

BSN or, Bachelor’s degree in related field (Nursing Preferred) required.Master’s degree in business, Nursing, or related field a plus.Licensed to Practice Nursing in the State of Maine5-7 years of experience in patient care services in a progressive leadership role.3-5 years of relevant business and/or clinical experience overseeing large or otherwise complex endoscopy and GI departments. Experience with program development; GI or Endoscopy program experience preferred.Front office staff in a medical office setting, including scheduling, billing, insurance reimbursement, OR3-5 years of experience and demonstrated skill in a Managerial (multi-practice management, Manager, Director level or equivalent)
