Cox Enterprises is seeking a visionary Director of Environmental Sustainability - Water and Biodiversity to lead our enterprise-wide strategy for water conservation and biodiversity preservation. This high-impact role will spearhead our efforts to achieve ambitious sustainability goals as part of our Cox Conserves initiative, partnering across divisions to make a lasting environmental difference.
The Director of Environmental Sustainability - Water and Biodiversity is responsible for leading the overall strategy, projects, and operations for water and biodiversity across the enterprise, including the high-visibility water and biodiversity sustainability goals of Cox Conserves. This individual will develop and execute the water and biodiversity strategy and direct the company’s enterprise-wide water and biodiversity team and business unit partners to achieve the upcoming water and biodiversity goals. This position will also be responsible for the overall framework for the evaluation and verification of all Cox divisions in the pursuit of the water and biodiversity goals. The position is responsible for leading water and biodiversity efforts through projects, vendors, and partners across the enterprise. In addition, this role is responsible for interfacing with all new acquisitions as well as the recently developed “Cox Farms” entity to support their water and biodiversity efforts.

Job Responsibilities:
Create, implement, and evolve enterprise strategy to achieve newly defined water and biodiversity goals across business units, including the location, regional, business unit, and executive level, as well as our new acquisitions and Cox Farms.
Partner with and influence cross-divisional leaders across all business units (CAI, CCI, CEI, Cox Farms, etc.) to drive COX Conserves strategic vision and programs to achieve Cox’s water and biodiversity ambition.
Serve as a trusted advisor, thought leader, and subject matter expert on water and biodiversity to the AVP-Waste, Water, Investment Recovery, Nature & Biodiversity, representing his/her interests in dealings with leaders from across the company.
Build and execute biodiversity strategy and expand existing water strategies utilizing internal and external mechanisms.
Responsible for driving continuous improvement in COX water conservation and biodiversity metrics to meet the publicly facing company goal.
Direct all internal and external water and biodiversity reporting and governance as business owner of water and biodiversity strategy and operations
Develop and implement long- and short-term plans, goals, budgets, and objectives for assigned divisions, including research and assessment of new technology and programs
Partner with cross-divisional stakeholders, including Corporate Social Responsibility Supply Chain, Environmental Risk, Communications, and Operations, to harmonize water and biodiversity strategies and goals with other key company initiatives.
Provide a high level of environmental expertise while conducting complex business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analysis while working to align business solutions with the COX Conserves strategy and vision.
Direct and synchronize multiple enterprise solutions projects with a large scope and complexity in an environment for business change.
Work with internal and external customers, suppliers, and other partners to resolve problems, respond to suggestions for improvement and enhancements, test, refine and institutionalize solutions.
Represent Cox’s interests in evaluating key external national partnerships with organizations, trade associations and nonprofits that align with the water and biodiversity strategy and work to establish Cox as a water and biodiversity thought leader.
This position has direct reports and will be responsible for delegating assignments and managing teams for water and biodiversity projects that are to be implemented at Cox sites. Demonstrated ability to work independently, supervise others, diagnose team problems, and develop strategies to enhance teamwork.
Job Qualifications – Experience/Education/Training:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Environmental Health or related degree with 10 years related experience.
In-depth knowledge and experience with biodiversity and water frameworks, measurement, and verification.
In-depth understanding of sustainability, impact reporting, and best practices.
Experience with developing and executing biodiversity and/or water projects.
Familiarity with global sustainability and ESG frameworks, including the Global Reporting Initiative and TNFD.
Extensive experience in written communications and oral presentations.
Strong network within the sustainability and environmental communities.
Strong understanding of the regulated industry and its impact on biodiversity and water.
At least years 5 supervisory experience.
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, or related degree and 8 years of related experience.
Experience with global water, biodiversity, and sustainability practices.
Experience with global sustainability reporting and frameworks
Job Skills:

Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Strong ability to prioritize tasks and problem-solve.
