DIRECTOR FINANCE COMMUNITY WORKS | BALTIMORE, MARYLAND
The Finance Director is responsible for day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, controls, and department oversight.
Essential Job Functions
Prepare and present financial statements at Board meetings.
Prepare and review monthly financial reports, journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses.
Lead programmatic reporting, budget analysis, and communicate significant trends to leadership.
Support audits, IRS Form 990 preparation, and capital reporting processes.
Configure, manage, and monitor the Workday Grant module; set operating procedures and train staff on grant stewardship and spending.
Participate in the annual operational and capital budgeting processes; work directly with operational leaders on budget development and approval.
Review property financial statements and reconcile discrepancies.
Collaborate with property management companies on financial concerns, annual budgets, and property management plan improvements.
Develop and implement strategies for financial aspects of property management.
Maintain cash flow projections and plan for reinvestment needs.
Provide financial expertise in new property development and refinancing efforts.
Monitor housing and grant compliance with regulatory, financial, and insurance requirements.
Supervise and mentor staff accountants; ensure proper financial resource stewardship and organizational goal alignment.
Assist with fundraising efforts, build team and community connections, and support the organization’s mission locally.
Act as part of a larger team to advance the rental housing portfolio, community health programs, and organizational mission.
Work on site 3-5 days per week

Work with leadership to implement finance aligned initiatives of the department strategic plan

REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldDevelopment Finance Certified Professional (DFCP) Certified Public Accountant (CPA)Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public health, community development or related field 5+ years’ progressive experience working in an accounting or finance functionExperience in real estate development, residential property management or affordable housing and/or not-for-profit accountingExperience following generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in an accounting rolePREFERRED
