Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner of the Health Equity Bureau, the Director for the Office of African American Health (OAAH) will lead the creation and implementation of a strategic plan for the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to improve its capacity to advance African American health through collaboration and innovative strategies. The long-standing and systematic nature of this work requires deep understanding of African American health disparities data and the underlying causes. Main responsibilities will include: + Strategically develop and implement both current and new strategies and activities to advance African American health and well-being. + Ensure internal collaboration and workforce development to advance African American health. + Ensure external networking and partnership collaboration to advance African American health. + Advance equity within MDH and across the state enterprise: Build momentum to reduce health disparities and improve the diversity of MDH workforce and supply chain. The Director of OAAH will keep a strong focus on African American health equity throughout the MDH through collaboration, policy and education while developing new strategies and activities to implement and advance African American health and well-being. Additionally, this position will lead the development of an African American Health State Advisory Council. **Minimum Qualifications** To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume/application clearly describes your experience in the areas listed below and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position. + **Four (4) years of professional level experience within Health Equity or African American Health.** + **Three or more years of supervisory or managerial level experience that includes leading professional level staff.** + **Experience must demonstrate the following, which should be referenced directly within your resume:** *Leadership experience can include: + Experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead; + Completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program (e.g. ELI, L4); + A paid/unpaid position leading a program or chairing a committee (e.g. ERG) A related Doctorate degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience; Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor's degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience; Associate degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience. ***Fields of study may include programs such as: African American Studies, Social Justice Studies, Social Work, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Health, or related fields.** **Preferred Qualifications** + Bachelor or Master’s degree in African American Studies, Social Justice, Public Health, or a closely related field + Demonstrated ability to influence and skillfully execute a modern vision in viewing employment and management policies and practices through an equity lens. + Demonstrated familiarity with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. + Cross-cultural dispute resolution skill to facilitate conversations and reach mutually agreeable resolutions. + Demonstrated skill in understanding foundational and systemic barriers to both social and economic equity and the ability to identify paradigms for addressing them. + Demonstrated ability to describe and address the ways in which historical and contemporary racism and discrimination impact individual and systematic health outcomes. + Demonstrated ability to work with managers to improve the workplace experience and occupational trajectories of historically marginalized/under-represented groups. **Additional Requirements** Successful completion of a background check is required for this position.
