Position Summary:
This position of Government Relations Director for Nutrition and State Affairs will:Coordinate all ADM public policy advocacy on U.S. human nutrition and related food and agricultural policy issues at the federal and state levels, with input and collaboration from business partners and functional groups, including Sustainability, Communications and Regulatory & Scientific Affairs.Plan, develop, implement and lead advocacy strategies and stakeholder engagement plans, to influence policy/legislation, and/or shape regulatory issues in these areas.Advance ADM nutrition, food and agriculture public policy and business priorities with key U.S. and state officials, policy, and academic stakeholders in Washington, D.C. and key states.Provide business leaders in key states with support on legislative issues (IN, TN, GA, TX, CO).Educate stakeholders on ADM’s corporate strategies to position ADM as a partner of choice.Provide support to executives, including preparation for stakeholder and association meetings.Represent ADM in the relevant nutrition, food, and agriculture associations committees related to nutrition issues.To achieve this, the successful candidate must be experienced in or have a background in working on human nutrition and/or state government relations in the U.S.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead and coordinate advocacy and serve as point of contact for internal stakeholders on legislation and public policy related to human nutrition, food, and agriculture issues.Work with business segment, internal experts, and/or issue management teams to: identify issues, frame business impacts and provide strategic analysis, develop issue management plans and policy positions, develop and execute advocacy plans, and provide proactive updates to assess risks and opportunities in public policy landscape.Maintain an issues management roster for business leaders, provide oversight and strategic direction to association participation and staffing, and support executive visits to U.S. government and policy leaders in Washington, D.C. and in 5 key states.Development stakeholder engagement plans and brief/coordinate meetings between ADM business management and government officials on aforementioned issues. Engage in public policy discussions to represent ADM and explain implications to the company and broader sector.Manage trade association participation focused on issues listed above.Help translate policy developments into actionable intelligence for business colleagues.Requirements:Established stakeholder network in Washington, D.C. and 5 key states, including U.S. government (House, Senate, Federal Agencies, and White House), public policy groups/think tanks, and associations related to human nutrition, food, and agriculture issues. Advanced understanding of human nutrition, food, and agriculture policy issues.Advanced expertise in issue management, advocacy, and, association management.Experience in problem solving when public policy issues arise, including proactive identification, framing, and strategy development to address the risk or opportunity.Ability to credibly explain complex policy issues to internal stakeholders and ADM business to government officials. Demonstrated written, verbal, analytical, collaboration, and cultural skills.Demonstrated initiative and strategic thinking.Proven ability to manage complex portfolio, deadlines, and executive visits.High ethical standards and personal integrity.Minimum education required: Advanced degree, with a preference for a Dietician.Minimum 10 years of work experience in Washington, D.C. and/or state government relations issues in the 5 key states in the private and/or public sector.Excited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
