The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) and Information Security is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of both health information services and information security functions within our small, rural community hospital. This role collaborates with management, providers, staff, and patients to optimize document imaging, chart analysis, document storage, and release of information processes. The Director ensures compliance with federal and state laws, including HIPAA and HITECH, and upholds generally accepted HIM best practices. Additionally, this position provides strategic advice on information security needs, risks, and impacts to the overall IT strategic plan, communicating with the Chief Legal Officer regarding recommendations related to information security governance, risk, and compliance. The Director works closely with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and HIPAA Privacy Officer to operationalize information security measures, controls, maintenance, and upgrades, supporting the organization's mission, vision, values, and meeting regulatory standards.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Information Security or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.Minimum Work Experience
7 years of Health Information Management experience or related health care experience preferred. 2 years working in an information security-related role. Experience with healthcare software applications. Prior experience in a leadership.Required Licenses/Certifications
