Occupational Summary:
In collaboration with the Vice President for Institutional Equity and senior leadership, the Director of Integrated Marketing, Communications, and Programming for the Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) will develop, manage, and execute a comprehensive internal and external communications strategy to advance the mission and initiatives of OIE. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional Equity with a dotted line to the Associate Vice President for Strategy and Education Development and the Associate Vice President for Harassment and Discrimination Prevention and Compliance/Title IX Coordinator, this role includes the creation and dissemination of materials to highlight OIE’s programs and initiatives, oversight of digital platforms and communication channels, and support for University-wide committees such as the Racial Equity Advisory Council (REAC).
The Director will also cultivate strong partnerships with communicators across campus to ensure consistent messaging and amplify OIE and REAC impact within the broader Duke community. Additionally, the Program Director for Special Events will have a dotted line to the Director and work in close coordination to design and implement strategic marketing, communications, and programming plans that elevate awareness of OIE’s work, clarify opportunities for engagement, and promote racial and social equity. This role will provide strategic leadership, program management, and communication expertise to align OIE’s goals with the University’s overarching priorities in this arena.
Strategic Leadership and Marketing Oversight (50%)
Develop, manage, and execute a comprehensive internal and external marketing and communications strategy in alignment with OIE’s mission and priorities. Lead the design and implementation of strategic communication plans to promote awareness of OIE programs, initiatives, and opportunities for engagement, ensuring alignment with Duke’s broader University priorities. Oversee the creation and dissemination of materials to highlight OIE and REAC efforts, including digital content, social media, newsletters, and marketing collateral. Serve as the primary liaison between OIE and University Communications, collaborating to ensure cohesive messaging and branding across all communication platforms. Identify and address communication gaps within OIE by developing tailored strategies to enhance clarity and engagement with key audiences. Provide oversight and strategic direction to the Program Director and Program Coordinator, ensuring alignment of team communications and marketing efforts with OIE’s goals and priorities.
Program Development and Event Management (25%)
Guide and work alongside the Program Director for Special Events in designing and implementing communications and marketing materials that support OIE’s initiatives, including events such as the Cook Society Dinner, MLK Commemoration, Campus Culture Survey, REAC Council, and the Duke Equity Network Meeting. Lead the development of integrated marketing and communications plans to promote OIE-hosted events and initiatives, maximizing attendance and engagement. Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure programs and events align with the mission and priorities of OIE and reflect best practices inequity and inclusion programming. Monitor the effectiveness of programs and events, using feedback and data to inform continuous improvement efforts.
Team Leadership and Collaboration (15%)
Provide mentorship and leadership to the Program Director for Special Events and the Program Director that supports REAC, fostering professional development and aligning their efforts with OIE’s strategic objectives. Facilitate team meetings and planning sessions to ensure effective coordination and communication across all projects and initiatives with VP and senior leadership team. Collaborate with OIE’s internal teams (compliance and strategy and educational development) to ensure marketing and communication efforts support their objectives. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with university departments, schools, and external partners to support OIE’s work and amplify its impact.
Data-Driven Strategy and Market Research (10%)
Lead audience and market research initiatives to inform communication strategies, including surveys, focus groups, and benchmarking against peer institutions. Collaborate with the administrative support team in OIE to analyze web and social media performance metrics, making data-driven recommendations to enhance engagement and reach. Work with the Program Director for Special Events to implement best practices for tracking and reporting marketing outcomes, ensuring alignment with OIE’s strategic goals. Use insights from research and analytics to refine communication and program strategies, enhancing their impact and effectiveness.
Operational Excellence and Project Management (10%)
Oversee the planning and execution of communication and marketing projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to branding standards, and alignment with OIE’s priorities. Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring efficient use of staff and vendor support. Maintain organized records of all communications and programming activities, including work products, plans, and reports. Ensure compliance with university branding, accessibility, and legal standards across all communication and marketing materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical Bachelor's degree and 5 -7 years of relevant marketing and/or communications work with increasing levels of responsibility required. Demonstrated excellence in messaging and brand development. Experience developing and implementing effective direct marketing campaigns across multiple channels. Experience and comfort managing design, video, and other multimedia production projects. Experience in event marketing, digital marketing, social media, and market/audience research to develop communications plans preferred. Knowledge of educational engagement, higher education issues, research universities preferred. Experience writing across multiple mediums including content for presentations, press releases, and reports.

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 76,628.00 to USD $153,254.00. Education
