**Director Medical Science Liaison, IgG4 Rare Disease- West Territory - AZ, CO, OR, TX, WA**

**What you will do**
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will direct, develop and support the activities of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) within their assigned region. You will be accountable for the attainment of clinical and business objectives for the marketed and pipeline compounds they represent.
+ The **Director Medical Science Liaison** is accountable for the direction and successful execution of the MSLs goals and clinical/business objectives.
+ Accountable for strategic planning, financial management, personnel management, performance management, professional development, training and execution of organizational goals and objectives.
+ Responsible for driven business analysis and clinical positioning of a designated product line in designated region.
+ Ensures field medical team adheres to corporate guidance on compliant ways of working with the commercial organization and other relevant internal team members.
+ Collaborates with and assists the National Director, Field Medical Affairs and Medical Affairs Operations with clinical/business strategy, tactical planning, impact goal development, and quantification of impact of field medical team.
+ Takes initiative and innovates to enhance the effectiveness of the MSLs role and U.S. field medical function.
+ Maintains clinical and business knowledge of designated therapeutic area/product(s), including current treatment strategies, competitive marketplace, and new therapeutic developments. Continually educates self on market issues / trends and product knowledge.
+ Analyzes local and regional business needs by working with the clinical and commercial organizations, as appropriate, to find opportunities where the MSLs function can collaborate.
+ Ensures that MSL team members maintain adequate communications and interaction with the in-field commercial organization, which consists of the District Managers (DM), Regional Managers (RM) and Specialty Account Managers (SAM), when appropriate.
+ Ensures MSLs have the necessary tools, training, and materials to perform their responsibilities effectively.
+ Accountable for the MSL team member to adhere to regulatory and compliance guidelines in all aspects of scientific dissemination of information.
+ Works collaboratively with other Director Medical Science Liaisons to ensure standardization and consistency of MSLs role as well as sharing successes and challenges to learn from.
+ Responsible for providing consistent and timely feedback to MSLs regarding their individual performance and progress.
+ Establishes a productive work environment by consistently demonstrating and instilling Amgen’s core behaviors.
+ Ensures MSL team members update and maintain all required databases with current and complete information. Ensures appropriate documentation of external customer interactions and responses to unsolicited requests in CRM (Veeva).

**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Doctorate degree & 4 years of Medical Affairs experience
OR
+ Master’s degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience
OR
+ Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Medical Affairs experience
**And**
+ 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MD, PhD, or Pharm D) preferred
+ Previous strategic launch experience required.
+ Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Demonstrates strong leadership through building and maintaining effective teams.
+ Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and develop strong relationships with a broad range of internal team members (including commercial, clinical, regulatory, legal, compliance)
+ Deals with ambiguity and uncertainty in a calm, thoughtful and professional way.
+ Understands the changing healthcare environment and thinks strategically to suggest and develop new scientific approaches to meet the needs of customers.
+ Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, OIG guidelines and research or clinical experience in the management of pain and/or rheumatic disease is desired.
+ Knowledge and understanding of clinical and regulatory guidelines.
+ Understands and demonstrates compliant ways of working with the commercial organization.
+ Ability to travel up to 75% for personnel management, observing MSL scientific interactions, understandings customer perceptions and needs, attend regional and international conferences/workshops, and internal meetings.
+ Ability to respond appropriately to needs of customers, key team members and manage expectations.
+ Demonstrated excellent project management skills and follow through.
+ Ensure appropriate utilization of field resources and that they are aligned with Amgen legal and all applicable regulatory guidelines to ensure medical and scientific accuracy and fair balance.
+ Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functional partners outside of team to enable higher performance
+ Learns fast, grasps the 'essence' and can change the course quickly when necessary.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
