Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, formulates and recommends policies, procedures, programs and other strategies that will further the objectives and requirements of the Medical Staff organization (i.e., takes initiative in planning and formulating strategies and plans. Coordinates and maintains Medical Staff Organization “governance documents” such as medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, related documents and policies and procedures of the MSO. Assures there is review of existing policies and governance documents on a regular basis and recommends changes as appropriate. Coordinates implementation of all approved programs, projects, and major activities of the Medical Staff organization. Administers the centralized credentialing and privileging process for new applicants, initial appointment, professional practice evaluation, [provisional reviews and] ongoing professional practice evaluation, and reappointment[s] to the Medical Staff, in addition to related membership and clinical privileges matters in between appointment periods. Administers the same for Allied Health Professional Staff credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Identifies and troubleshoots complex credentialing issues.Educates and directs Medical Staff officers, Department Chairmen, Committee Chairmen and members and other health care professionals in the development of mechanisms to assess physician and AHP performance, identify potential risks and take disciplinary action when appropriate. Protects the Medical Staff and hospital from liability resulting from failure to monitor adequately and to evaluate the level of care rendered and to ensure that due process rights have been afforded when applicable. Carries out specific tasks assigned by the Medical Board and/or Chief of Staff or Senior Management. Oversees the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.Additional responsibilities include:
