Director Medical Surgical and Rehab
+ Position Summary + Under general administrative direction, provides organizational leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of service consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of the Mary Greeley Medical Center. Director understands, supports, communicates and promotes Mary Greeley initiatives. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care and a respectful work environment. + Position Responsibilities + Unit Specific Position Responsibilities + Promotes culture of safety by monitoring patient experience and decreases medical errors and never events. + Utilizes HCAHPs data to drive results. + Sustains and promotes all Studer Best Practice Must Have Behaviors. + Partners with Medical Staff and Hospitalist Program to ensure all physician activities are maximized to enhance patient flow, quality of care, safety, and patient experience. + Prepares and presents relevant operational reports to the Executive Director of Inpatient Nursing at regularly scheduled meetings and on an as needed basis. + Determines and adjusts staffing based on organizational staffing matrix and NDNQI guidelines. + Consults with the appropriate unit / department supervisor or director concerning staffing and department issues, needs and problems. + Consult with administrator on call concerning administrative issues, needs, and problems. Provide input on work performance of staff to unit supervisors, directors and Executive Director of Inpatient Nursing. + Acts as a resource to medical center staff and actively participates in problem solving /priority setting. Coaches, mentors, and supports staff. + Acts as a resource person to medical center staff and actively participates in problem solving and/or priority setting. Coaches, mentors and supports staff. + Ensures cost effective and proper utilization of supplies, equipment, and human resources. + Maintains assigned records and reports. + Performs related work per orientation and position competency checklists and skills validation. + Utilizes the PRIDE program and other resources to recognize employees’ achievement of the medical center’s values. + Works with Human Resources Department to source applicants. + Support medical center wide educational and leadership development initiatives. + Fosters positive employee engagement and a team-oriented environment throughout the medical center. + Instills a culture of customer service by emphasizing responsiveness, resourcefulness, follow-through, accuracy, timeliness, and accountability. + Collaborates and coordinates with contracted rehabilitation service provider to ensure continuity of competent and safe patient care. + Supports the management of contracted employees and/or services through contracted Acute Rehab Company to ensure services for acute rehab unit. + Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience + Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): + Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. + Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact. + Actively completing Master’s degree in nursing or health related field. + Professional certification in nursing specialty or nursing leadership within 24 months of hire. + BLS and Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment + Organizational Requirements: + Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements. + Preferred Qualifications: + Masters in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or related field. + Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience: + Skill in effective oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. + Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications. + Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times + Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. + Ability to manage one’s time effectively. + Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience. + Competency required in the areas of budgeting, finance, long range planning and interpersonal communications. + Experience in change management and management team development and evaluation preferred. + Demonstrates an application of nursing and management theory to practice through policies, procedures and protocols initiated. + Possession of knowledge of state licensure, federal and state regulations and accreditation standards and third party payment systems for all areas of responsibility. + Demonstration of the ability to coordinate, schedule and supervise the work of all areas of responsibility and to direct and evaluate staff. + Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience: + None Specified
