The Director will manage and support the Materials Science and Engineering department in daily and long-term needs. Provide administrative support to department chair with scheduling of meetings, maintaining calendar, preparing correspondence and reconciling expenses. Assist department chair in management of department with regard to faculty and staff issues; overseeing academic issues and deadlines; department planning, space planning and renovations as needed; and acting as liaison for/with faculty, students, staff, other departments, school, university and external customers. Supervise administrative staff (2). Compile dossiers for faculty appointments, reappointments and promotions cases and lecturer appointments. Coordinate faculty recruiting process to include meetings with search chair and committees, planning and placement of advertisements online, in publications and department website. Coordinate candidate visits and processing of dossiers. Oversee postdoc population and TA assignments. Plan and manage all department events and reconcile expenses on Concur. Provide administrative support to faculty as needed. Manage facility maintenance requests and liaison with LRSM Building Administrator in maintaining MSE labs. Schedule faculty meetings, oversee ordering and maintaining of all supplies and equipment in offices.

Job Responsibilities
+ Provide administrative support to the department chair in management of department with regard to faculty and staff issues; overseeing academic issues and deadlines; space planning and renovations as needed; and acting as liaison for with faculty, students, staff, other departments, school, university and external customers.
+ Compile dossiers for faculty appointments, reappointments and promotions cases as well as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer appointments. Coordinate faculty recruiting process to include meeting with search chair, placing advertisements, overseeing Interfolio, candidate visits and processing of dossiers, and acclimation of new faculty members. Oversee the TA hiring for Spring, Summer and Fall semesters by producing appointments letters and providing PEFS with necessary information.
+ Supervise MSE Staff. Manage workflow distribution and supervise administrative staff in daily and long-term needs. Support their individual mission as Graduate and Undergraduate Coordinators and support a balance in duties assigned to assist department needs. Evaluate performance.
+ Plan and manage all department events and reconcile expenses on Concur.
+ Provide administrative support to department chair with scheduling of faculty meetings, maintaining calendar, preparing correspondence and reconciling expenses.
+ Provide administrative support to other faculty and lecturers.
+ Oversee space needs for faculty, staff and student and maintenance of department offices and labs. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. High level of initiative and independent judgement. Previous experience in an academic environment highly preferred; knowledge of post- secondary admissions and advising; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; advanced computer skills, supervisory experience; event planning and time management; excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills. Familiarity with financial and budget management desired. Previous experience with social media platforms helpful.
