Position Description
This is a non-civil service announcement. The Director of Advancement & Strategic Partnerships will lead the newly established Office of Advancement & Strategic Partnerships within the Mayor’s Office. This senior-level position is crucial for fostering public-private partnerships, securing funding, and advancing key mayoral priorities. The Director will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, corporations, foundations, and nonprofit organizations.
Reporting the Chief of Staff, the Director will also oversee the daily operations of the Advancement team, directly supervising the Grants Advancement Manager, Grant Writer, and Financial Empowerment Center Coordinator. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record in leading partnership and resource development efforts through cross-sector collaborations that are aligned with articulated priorities, including financial empowerment and community development.

Mayoral staff (non-civil service) receive 15 days of Paid Time Off and 12 sick days annually.
Typical Duties
+ Partnership Development & Management:
+ Identify, establish, and steward public-private partnerships to support and fund city and mayoral initiatives.
+ Collaborate with key stakeholders, including government agencies, businesses, foundations, individuals, and nonprofit community organizations, to align resources with city priorities.
+ Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities that align with the mayor’s and city’s strategic goals.
+ Fundraising & Resource Mobilization:
+ Develop goals and implement strategies to secure funding for mayoral priorities through grants, sponsorships, individual donations, and other financial instruments.
+ Cultivate relationships with potential donors and funding organizations to maximize financial support for city programs and initiatives.
+ Work closely with the Grant Program Manager and Grant Writer to identify and apply for grants.
+ Leadership & Management:
+ Directly supervise and provide guidance to the Grant Program Manager, Grant Writer, and Financial Empowerment Center Coordinator.
+ Oversee the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that enhance financial empowerment and community development.
+ Ensure that the Office of Advancement & Strategic Partnerships operates efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with the city’s broader goals.
+ Strategic Planning & Implementation:
+ Collaborate with the Mayor’s Office to develop and implement the office’s strategic plan.
+ Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships and programs, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
+ Report regularly on the progress of initiatives, funding efforts, and partnerships.
+ Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for external philanthropic partners and stakeholders.
+ Represent the Mayor’s Office and the Office of Advancement & Strategic Partnerships at meetings, events, and public forums.
+ Develop and maintain communication channels that promote transparency and collaboration with all stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
+ 5 years of experience in partnership development, fundraising, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
+ Demonstrated experience in securing and managing public and private funding.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Master's degree.
+ Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team.
+ Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
+ Strategic thinker with a proven ability to develop and implement effective partnership and fundraising strategies.
+ Strong understanding of grant writing, grant management, and financial empowerment initiatives.
+ Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
+ Knowledge of local government operations and the nonprofit sector.
+ Commitment to public service and the advancement of mayoral priorities.
