Director of Anesthesia
TheDirector of Anesthesiais an independent, proactive leader with a strategic vision for advancing the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Anesthesia service line. This individual will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations, finance, human resources, clinical performance, and growth initiatives. This role requires demonstrated expertise in managing complex service lines, driving operational excellence, and cultivating collaborative partnerships across a multi-site, high-acuity healthcare system. Serving as the administrative and operational leader, the Director will work closely with departmental leadership to implement strategic and operational plans that align withHenry Ford Health’smission of innovation, growth, and world-class patient care. Key Responsibilities : Strategic Leadership + Provide strategic direction for the Anesthesia service line to support organizational goals in growth, quality, and operational performance . + Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure alignment with Henry Ford’sDestination Grandinitiatives and system-wide priorities. + Develop business plans, financial models, and operational strategies to expand clinical programs and promote national recognition for the department. Operations Management + Oversee all day-to-day administrative operations of the Anesthesia service line, including clinical services, perioperative programs, pain management, and educational initiatives. + Conduct in-depth analyses of departmental operations, implement process improvements, and ensure measurable performance outcomes. + Provide oversight for clinical outcomes research, space management, and capital requests, ensuring efficient resource allocation across multiple locations. Financial Leadership + Lead departmental budgeting, revenue management, and financial performance, ensuring fiscal accountability and strategic use of resources . + Prepare and analyze detailed financial reports, advising leadership on corrective actions when necessary. + Develop funding models, optimize clinical revenue cycles, and support grant administration for research and innovation. Human Resources and Talent Development + Oversee faculty and staff recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development, ensuring a culture ofservice excellenceand accountability. + Provide administrative leadership for faculty compensation plans, performance evaluations, and succession planning. + Ensure effective management of departmental HR activities, including employee relations, compliance, and workforce planning. Education and Training Program Oversight + Provide administrative direction for educational programs, including Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and Fellowship programs. + Collaborate with Residency and Fellowship Directors to ensure compliance with institutional and accreditation standards. + Develop initiatives that support innovative teaching methods, Change Management and Continuous Improvement + Drive process improvement and organizational change through data-driven decision-making, ensuring operational efficiency and enhanced patient outcomes. + Implement performance standards to measure safety, service quality, and patient satisfaction. + Develop a culture of continuous improvement across all domains, integratingbest practicesand innovation. Research and Clinical Integration + Partner with leadership to support the development and administration of clinical outcomes research and new grant initiatives. + Facilitate collaboration between clinicians, educators, and researchers to align efforts that advance evidence-based care and departmental goals . Organizational Representation and Collaboration + Represent the Department Chair and Physician Leader in institutional meetings, serving as a trusted advisor and advocate for the Anesthesia service line. + Foster strong partnerships with hospital leadership, clinical teams , and external stakeholders to drive growth and operational alignment . + Promote the department nationally and internationally through thought leadership, innovation, and collaborative initiatives. Minimum Qualifications : + Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration , Healthcare Administration, or related field ; Master’s Degree preferred. + Experience: Minimum6 yearsof related administrative experience, with at least3 yearsin a supervisory leadership role. + Preferred: Master’s Degree and several years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare or academic administration, with demonstrated expertise in operational and financial management . Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : + Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a dynamic, complex environment . + Demonstrated financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and resource optimization. + Strong leadership qualities, with exceptional skills in strategic planning, change management, and problem-solving. + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with faculty, staff, and external partners effectively . + Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, high-impact initiatives while ensuring alignment with institutional goals. + Proficiency in analyzing data and driving data-based decisions to achieve operational and clinical excellence. + Knowledge of clinical operations, research administration, and healthcare regulatory standards.
