Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship - Tufts Medical Center - Boston, MA
Tufts Medical Center Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases is seeking a Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship to join our outstanding team of Physicians. The Antimicrobial stewardship program is a vital part of the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases and Tufts Medical Center. The Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship will be responsible for the leading our successful Antimicrobial Management Team (AMT), and its functions within the hospital.

Responsibilities:
The Tufts Medical Center antimicrobial stewardship program is a charter member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America Antimicrobial Stewardship Centers of Excellence program, with 6 years of continuous designation as a Center of Excellence. The Director of AMT is responsible for developing, implement, and sustaining antimicrobial stewardship strategies that align with Joint Commission and CMS standards as well as the CDC's Core Elements of Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Programs. The Director will oversee a team that includes a full time ID trained pharmacist and 4 other physician members along with fellows in a formal antimicrobial stewardship training tack. The Director is expected to be involved in ongoing state, national, and professional societal activities related to Antimicrobial stewardship and prevention of antimicrobial resistance. Resources to engage in research and other scholarly work include the availability of data analysts, expert biostatisticians, and grant support. The Tufts Medicine health system uses the Epic electronic health record which allows for access to data to inform quality improvement activities and investigation.
The Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship will be responsible for the Antimicrobial Management Team (AMT) and its functions within the hospital, as well as have a role in supporting patients with a wide range of complex infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings.
The Director of AMT is responsible for antimicrobial use that occurs throughout the hospital, including monitoring, feedback, policies, protocols, order sets, and education.
The Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship will be responsible for co-leading the antimicrobial subcommittee of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee with the Infectious Disease Pharmacist.
The Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship will promote quality in healthcare and will work with many stakeholders including the AMT team members, microbiology colleagues, the infection control team, the quality team, pharmacy, the CMO, and will report to both the Hospital Epidemiologist and the Chief of ID, Dr. Vindenes
The Director will be responsible for contributing to Tufts Medicine’s cost savings by having the ability to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with infections due to antibiotic-resistant pathogens and antimicrobial-related adverse patient experiences.
The Director of AMT will be involved in or lead AMT research at Tufts, with aim to collaborate with The Stuart B. Levy Center for Integrated Management of Antimicrobial Resistance (CIMAR) and Tufts University.
The Director of AMT may have the opportunity to work closely with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health by contributing to initiatives related to antimicrobial use and prevention of antimicrobial resistance targeting non acute care settings.

Requirements:
M.D. degree, Infectious disease board certification, with experience appropriate to your career level
Knowledge of antimicrobial use, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, mechanisms and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, and costs, as well as in-depth knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship as a discipline
Experience providing antimicrobial stewardship services and/or formal training in antimicrobial stewardship is preferred

Tufts Medicine offers a competitive salary commensurate with academic training and practice experience. A Tufts University School of Medicine appointment will be offered commensurate with academic qualifications.
