NYC Parks is a design award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy. NYC Parks manages more than 30,000 acres or 14% of the city’s land, encompassing more than 5,000 individual properties. Our diverse set of assets includes recreational facilities, nature centers, historic buildings and structures, golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, comfort stations, retaining walls and nearly 14 miles of beaches.
Major Responsibilities
- Under direction with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, lead the Brooklyn Borough Capital Projects effort. Manage the Borough’s $200 million budget for Capital and state of good repair projects, with a special focus on community parks initiatives and rating sensitive sites.
- Represent the Borough Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Staff at meetings regarding Brooklyn Capital Projects with inter-city agencies such as Economic Development Corporation (EDC), City Planning and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Serve as a liaison between Capital and Maintenance and Operations.
- Oversee design presentations for community boards and groups and elected officials.
- Meet with City Council members and elected officials to assess capital projects.
- Consult with engineers, designers and contractors for the timely completion of projects.
- Direct and advise construction and architecture on design and field issues.
- Submit grants for borough improvements.
- Develop and keep updated borough “wish list” and supervise scope and site meetings for local community groups and officials.
- Evaluate designs, surveys and work orders for the reconstruction of parks on behalf of the Chief of Operations.
- Assist with Special Events including, but not limited to, ribbon-cuttings, groundbreakings and ceremonies.
- Maintain and update capital status reports for elected officials and community boards.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
