The Director of the Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety (CSRPS) oversees operations of the CSRPS to meet educational needs and coordinates educational programs, staff, and maintains simulation best practices as defined by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Ensures partnerships are developed with stakeholders, finds creative solutions to problems, and situates the simulation center as a space for innovation and collaboration in education, research, and patient safety. Collaborates with the Medical Director, Senior Director, and Vice President of Academic Affairs to optimize education opportunities for clinical faculty, staff and students.
Performs specific job responsibilities:
Aligns center education practices and daily operations with defined best-practices and accreditation requirements. Develops simulation education assessments that supports Carilion’s mission and vision. Supervises simulation educators in daily operations, including developing education goals, working with stakeholders, conducting simulations and evaluating simulations. Provides direct oversight of staff and provides feedback in a timely and professional manner. Maintains and keeps all building and equipment certifications up to date. Advocates for new equipment as needed to achieve simulation goals. Manages curriculum development, scheduling, resource allocation, educator assignments, evaluations, and feedback. Oversees CSRPS general priorities and plans based on organizational evaluation and opportunities, goals, and needs. In collaboration with leadership, seeks out and advocates for new growth, engages and partners with stakeholders, develops new work relationships for innovation. Partners with leadership on preparing and managing annual operational finances and staffing plans. Manages funding sources, ensures contracts are maintained and revenue sources are maximized within the institutional parameters and guidelines. Promotes CSRPS as a creative hub between Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. What We Require:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in Education, Simulation, clinical care, or Management, or action plan in place with degree completion within 3 years with VP approval.
Experience: Five or more years of applied experience in Simulation, Education, or Applied Science. Three or more years of experience in a healthcare setting. Leadership experience preferred.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must have the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Must be able to develop and maintain professional and positive work relationships allowing for shared decision making, professional development, and growth. Demonstrated skills in project management, patient simulation and presentation development. Demonstrated ability to communicate with senior leaders. Ability to adapt and update plans quickly as necessary. Applied knowledge and skills in the areas of communication, leadership, team building, employee development, interpersonal relationship management, versatility and creativity, and system application of processes. Demonstrates excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication, team leadership, priority setting and work competency skills.
