Your Role at KIK

The Director of Chemical Management and Emergency Response is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of Chemical Management and Emergency Response within the organization. This includes developing and implementing comprehensive safety strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing risks to our employees and the environment. This role requires a strong understanding of Reactive Chemicals, specifically Chlorine and TCCA (trichloroisocyanuric acid), risk assessment methodologies, and emergency response within chemical manufacturing. This role will report into the VP of EHS and have 3 direct reports.  Travel expectations: 50-60%.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

Develop and implement a comprehensive chemical management strategy:  Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses for all products Identify and evaluate potential safety hazards and risks associated with product design, manufacturing, and use Develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimize or eliminate risks Establish and maintain a robust chemical safety management system Ensure Site has the necessary tools and training needed to properly respond to any events Ensure regulatory compliance:  Stay abreast of all relevant chemical safety regulations, standards, and directives (e.g., NFPA, EPA, OSHA, IFC, IBC) Ensure product compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards Prepare and submit required regulatory filings and notifications Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with internal safety policies and procedures Analyze incident data to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions Collaborate with cross-functional teams:  Work closely with Regional EHS Directors, Site EHS Team, engineering and operations to ensure chemical management is integrated throughout the corporation. Foster a culture of chemical safety and risk awareness within the organization Stay current on industry best practices:  Monitor industry trends and best practices in chemical safety and risk management Attend industry conferences and participate in professional development activities Continuously improve chemical safety processes and procedures based on industry best practices

 

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred 10 or more years of experience in chemical safety and management 5 or more years of people leadership experience managing at least 3 direct reports Strong understanding of product safety regulations, standards, and directives (e.g., NFPA, EPA, OSHA, IFC, IBC) Experience with risk assessment methodologies (e.g., FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, PHA’s) Excellent project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong leadership and mentoring skills
